Proposal: Trouba for Ekblad

Thoughts on this trade from Panthers fans:

Some type of combination of Jacob Trouba, Mathieu Perreault and/or A Jets 2nd rounder for Aaron Ekblad.

This is assuming Trouba signs an extension with Florida. The thinking is that Trouba is a slightly better defenseman, but Florida is helping Chevy out of a pickle because Trouba wants out of Winnipeg, so the sweetener is a Jets 2nd rounder and/or Mathieu Perreault. Jets still get to keep a RHD d-man.

Would that get a deal done?

My exact thoughts OP. I think this is the ideal outcome for the jets regarding then Trouba situation, just not sure if there is enough of an incentive for Florida to do this (although i would imagine they’re looking to shake some things up right now).

Interesting. I did not realize that these were the thoughts on Ekblad. Is this a consensus among Panthers fans? Forgive me as I do not follow the Panthers very closely.

mostly Habs conscensus because Ekblad seem to really really ahte the habs, I really despite him. He acts though and always fold and go cry to the Refs.

Trouba > Ekblad IMO, he is not the Calder Ekblad he was since the concussions. he is the type of player who has developed too young and now he is falling off.

I do,he sucks. He has his moments, his not physical, he's a turnovers machine and he was better at 19 years old.

People thinking Trouba is the lesser piece here are not watching Ekblad playing. Trouba is free this summer but he is 10x better in every aspect than Ekblad.


Only thing Ekblad can do is shot on PP and pray he will score 15 so it boosts his stats

From what we read, Ekblad stats are over-boosted by his goals during PP. he scores 10+ goals on PP.
He's simply not as good as people see him, an offensive second pairing D man.

Nope. I think it's pretty close, but this is a massive exaggeration. Ekblad has had his ups and downs but he's been really steady this season. He doesn't put up huge point totals (neither does Trouba), but as a 2-way guy, he's very good. He also has 10+ goals in each of his 5 seasons thus far.

I like Trouba, but he's nowhere near 10x better than Ekblad.

this is probably a best case scenario for a legit, experienced but still young top 4RHD return for Trouba.

I am not in love with Ekblad's contract though but Trouba will likely be seeking similar money.

Even from Advanced stats + pure show, Trouba is showing better number... Trouba is extremely better defensively.

Ekblad = more than 100 turnovers on 1000+ minutes.
Trouba = more minutes than Ekblad, yet -30 turnovers.

I really don't want Ekblad. Trouba is a much better defenseman. If anything, the Panthers add to Ekblad to acquire Trouba.

I agree, he hasn't lived up to his expectations, there's no doubt about that. I just flat out don't agree that Trouba is 10X better "in every aspect". He should be winning Norris trophies if that were the case.
