Imagine the audacity of saying a 25 year old — who leads the Flyers backend in 5v5 scoring and possession stats every season — has to “earn” PP time. When you have the worst d-man in the NHL on the top unit for regular shorthanded threats; watched one of the worst PP d-men in the NHL play 400 games on the PP; and have a rookie with 20 career games play each game on the PP (as he should).

Wait. But you then say this while Ristolainen, his partner who he carries in every way, with a laughably massive gulf between the two offensively, gets the PP time he doesn’t.

The biggest frustration with Sanheim and his rare use on the powerplay is the staff saying that giving him powerplay time reduces his effectiveness elsewhere... and saying this with a straight face with Provorov on the roster who should be the one who is an even strength/PK minutes eater. It's like they look at Sanheim and see what Provorov actually is and look at Provorov and see what Sanheim actually is.

What's worse is that Sanheim inevitably gets 30 seconds of powerplay time after months of none, fumbles the puck, and then all you hear is "I told you he sucks on the powerplay" while Yandle and Provorov turn the puck over 11 times each every... single... powerplay.

Trav is definitely the most misused player in the last decade (in terms of being underused).

Add in that Yandle will not be here next season. Well, fingers crossed! There’s some chance Provorov will not be here.

So, the two defenders on the roster who look to be the PP mainstays are……Cam York and Rasmus Ristolainen. Woof. To be fair, Risto hasn’t been on the PP consistently. To be extra fair, nothing shows he should have first dibs with Provorov removed.

You’d think the brain trust would want to make evaluations in this lost season but that’s not their M.O.

If they trade Provorov there's a serious chance they think they have to bring back Yandle, which is probably fine by then because they obviously think he's good. He fits whatever dumbass role they think is required

And before anyone argues that Yandle won't be brought back because of York and Zamula, let's remember that Yandle was already signed once to make sure they weren't playing.
Even if he isn’t brought back, they’ll just cycle on to the next worst defensemen they can get their hands on. The name may be different but the problem will be the same.

Can you really call them a brain trust if they don't have functioning brains?

I think they'll re-sign Yandle and guarantee him a lineup spot still....and i'm not joking. They think he's good and they value his lockeroom presence more than any other asset in the organization. They are very bad at their jobs.
