In your nightmares
I'm not a huge Hip fan... far from it, but they've got a dozen or so incredible songs imo. I tuned in, and even I got choked up. The raw energy was unlike anything I'd ever seen before.

This sums up how I felt too. Grace, Too blew me away.

>If a song ever hit a little too close to home, it was this one. Gord Downie does have a brother named Mike. He's a documentary film maker whose work has appeared on the Life Network and the CBC. Mike also directed the Hip's 1999 "Bobcaygeon" music video. He is certainly not in prison, nor has a tragedy such as the one explained in "38 Years Old" ever befallen the Downie family. Some folks took the song seriously however and began leaving things on the porch of the Downie family home in Kingston. The Downie's kept experiencing unwarranted and unwanted attention from literal believers of the song. As a result, "38 Years Old" was very rarely played live for many years. It made a surprise reappearance at Toronto's Fort York in June of 2006.

On why they they don't play 38 Years Old live (much).

While it doesn't really count CBC played Long Time Running during the credits.

I'm surprised a bigger deal wasn't made of CBC showing the loser in the Phaneuf jersey.

Fiddler's Green is a far "closer to home" song which they hadn't played live in many years. They played it a handful of times on this tour though.

It's crazy that they didn't play Fully Completely because I've seen them 10 times and I think they played it every time.

I mentioned in the other Hip thread, that it was unfortunate they never really took hold of the US listeners in the same way Nickelback somehow did. :help:

Ask any Canadian which band they'd prefer, though, and you'd probably get a unanimous decision today.
You really have to have somewhat of an understanding of Canada to completely grok the Hip.
To listen with understanding to Nickelback, you just have to be sixteen or remember being sixteen.

I don't think they played it live for 15 years.

Nah theyve played Fiddlers Green over the last couple years.

I was disappointed that they didnt play Fully Completely Long Time Running was hoping for Cordelia and So Hard Done By.

They could have passed on Toronto #4 Puttin Down and a couple of songs off the new album I thought.

Fiddler's Green really made me flood my basement in tears. I was an emotional mess :)

Is anyone else following #GordDowniesCanada on twitter? It's amazing that it's for Gord, who may or many not even know it's happening, but also beautiful to see all the gorgeous pictures of Canadian towns, cities and landscapes all in one place.

Re: Fiddlers Green, they didn't play it till recent years because it was too hard on them, and Gord specifically. It's about his sister's baby who died. Now it takes on a whole new meaning with him singing it.
