Is anyone else following #GordDowniesCanada on twitter? It's amazing that it's for Gord, who may or many not even know it's happening, but also beautiful to see all the gorgeous pictures of Canadian towns, cities and landscapes all in one place.

Re: Fiddlers Green, they didn't play it till recent years because it was too hard on them, and Gord specifically. It's about his sister's baby who died. Now it takes on a whole new meaning with him singing it.
I am now. Thanks.

The biggest benefactor from Canadian radio laws.

I'm grateful for it. So many Canadian bands would have been overlooked without it, especially The Hip and Rush. I think their music is great, both bands, and we would have likely never heard much of either without CanCon rules.

The name of an Indian residential school student who died 50 years ago was trending on Twitter Friday as news broke of Gord Downie's latest project devoted to the boy.

Chanie Wenjack was 12 years old when he died after running away from residential school in Kenora, Ont., in search of his family.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/gord-downie-chanie-wenjack-1.3753823

"I never knew Chanie, but I will always love him," Downie said in a statement on Friday, announcing plans to release the package in October.

Downie is using his celebrity to draw attention to the legacy of residential schools and what he sees as the need for all Canadians to be involved in reconciliation.

Terminal, aggressive brain cancer? No problem, go on a huge tour then go up north to launch a CD and book about a 12 year old's tragic story with proceeds going to an organization that doesn't benefit you but goes to others. What an amazing man. I just hope he is taking care of himself because he looks exhausted.

CD? I sure hope so. As of now, all I see is vinyl up for preorder. :(

My love for this man and this group knows no bounds. Legend.

He's incredible. There are very few celebrities I care about, literally I think Springsteen is the only one. I don't even feel like Gord is really a celebrity because he's so normal and nice.

“Somebody said it is like another Terry Fox moment for Canada. Every once in a while, someone comes along and tells us what we need to do to make ourselves better as a nation. That is what Gord is doing,” said Fiddler, grand chief to the 49 First Nations that make up Nishnawbe Aski Nation.

Fiddler also mentioned elsewhere that Gord kept telling him how grateful he was to be able to do this. Breaks your heart.

It has officially been released on CD. I've had my copy for a week now, and for those who don't know what CDs are, it's still available on vinyl and digital (packaged with the book or not) all over the internet.

It's really, really good. I can't get enough of it. The songs are gut wrenching and there's just not enough music out there that can really make you feel.

I am having trouble getting this to play on my laptop. It's a documentary of The Hip's MMP tour last summer. Gord is talking about going into the first rehearsal not remembering anything.

This should be pretty amazing. More details to come on Canada Day. I bet it will be part of TIFF and from what I've heard, this is going to be released on CTV in October.

BTW his brother Mike said Gord is writing songs, which is pretty great. I've seen pictures of him here and there on social media and he looks like he's put on weight.

Gord is getting the Order of Canada Monday! The rest of the band are also getting it but at a future date. He's getting it Monday with some other people for their work with Indigenous peoples.

Also I have to dig up the article I saw last week but his brother was interviewed and he said Gord is doing really well and is writing songs and recording. There was a picture of him on Instagram with Kim Mitchell, Kev Drew and the Barenaked Ladies.

It is pretty amazing he's still doing well after 1.5 years since he was first diagnosed. Most people with this disease don't make it that long.

That part during Bobcaygeon where Gord forgets the lyrics for a moment, and the whole crowd jumps in to help him out... and then someone starts cutting a bunch of onions.

I watched with a bunch of Hip friends last night. Woke up feeling much happier than on August 21, that's for sure. There is a pic of Gord on twitter with Mark Kelley from CBC, they watched it together. I wonder if an interview is coming, especially with all this talk of appropriation going on. Gord's getting criticized by some Indigenous people for telling Chanie's story even though he obviously had the blessing of Chanie's family.

Gord was in Ottawa for We Day yesterday. He looks like he did a few years ago and he gave an incredible speech, didn't even look like he was reading off a prompter. I will post links later but if you want to see them, go to you tube and search for We Day. A kids choir sang Secret Path and they all put on top hats at the end. Pearl and Daisy Wenjack were there and Pearl made a beautiful speech and sang a haunting hymn.

http://www.thehip.com/news/long-time-running/

Long Time Running chronicles the emotional and epic iconic Canadian band’s now-legendary 2016 tour that captured the heart of the nation. Viewers will be given a unique and exclusive perspective into The Tragically Hip’s world through intimate moments, behind-the-scenes and on-stage footage, personal interviews with the band and close friends, as well as reactions from their devoted fans from across the country.

I can't wait to see this. Gord couldn't put together a sentence, couldn't remember song names or lyrics but got well enough to tour a few months later. Will and determination.
