Strome for some overpaid (4mx3y) 4th line grinder. Mark my words.

I hold out hope that Chia can do what MacT did with Paajarvi and flip Strome for a solid contributor who is underwhelming with his current team but has a good history of providing offense. Nyquist fits the bill- he is two years from UFA and is scoring at 0.5 PPG. Silfverberg is another. Grabner is also a possibility.

However, where with MacT we could rely on him to rip the other team off in the odd trade, Chia has only ever shown an ability to turn roster players into worse ones.

I don't see any reason why NYR would trade Kreider. He's perfect for them to hang onto for a quick retool on the fly. Young, consistent, decent contract and solid leader.

I'm sure there's a Strome to Vegas deal to be had. Marchessault would be nice. He's heating up again after a slow start with goals in his last three games, he's proving he's more than a one season wonder. Or they could always roll the dice on Shipy. He's costly, but if he works out, it makes it that much easier to move out RNH.

Pulju for Kreider is such a joke of a trade. I rather tank for Dhalin than do that. Kreider doesn't make us that much better at the cost of one of best prospects. Pulju should only be moved in a package for a #1D

Can we at least try Strome with McDavid? He set up Connor's last goal, they scored several times in pre-season ... why is McLellan so stubborn in not at least trying this? Strome set up Lucic for two point blank chances last game, there's a good chance either Maroon or McDavid finish one of those.

Yeah ok, he's not a superstar, but McLellan doesn't always manage things well either. Like I get Nail Yakupov is a player with warts but why is it he never got to play with McDavid again after he came back from a broken clavicle? They were at a PPG before that, but nope, Todd has to play him a certain way and then we get nothing in return for him.

If you're going to trade a player fine, but at least maximize his trade value by putting him a position to succeed. McDavid + Draisaitl on the same line needs to end too, Todd needs to let go of that security blanket, he is killing any chance of us having secondary offence by stacking his lines.

I can't imagine a scenario where the Rangers would willingly move Kreider. He would be a phenomenal addition with his aggression, size, speed and willingness to go to the net.

But would I move Nuge for him? Nope.

I'd also be willing to reacquire Reinhart. He's a better player than Gryba.

Drives me nuts. McLellan had some good lines put together in camp and then scrapped them before the last preseason game.

It's simple. Once you're in Mclellan's doghouse, there's no getting out of it.

What do you think Puljujarvi becomes though? And how long does it take?

I know everybody's still feeling the positive effects of that draft surprise, but how long are you willing to wait to see if JPs got the goods or if he's just all flash? Kreider is what I'd be happy with JP becoming. I'm not sure how you turn that into a #1D ever. I think people need to set the bar a little lower.

Yeah well Todd might want to rethink a few things or he'll find himself on the unemployment line next to Chiarelli. You can't be this stubborn as a head coach. I never really thought of Todd as the long term solution here anyway, always felt he'd be like an interim guy that brings structure to the group but someone else takes over to take the team to the next level. That "interim" period might be shorter than I thought if he does not get better results than this and quickly.

48 once we send Yamo back to Jr. Reinhart will get claimed by the time we can put our claim in. If it was after November 1st we’d have a chance but he’ll never be a full time NHL defenceman if he doesn’t get faster.

Who else claims Reinhart? It was just two weeks ago that John Shannon said Reinhart would clear waivers.

Vegas has Brad effin' Hunt on their roster and they are sending Reinhart through waivers?! I would be more surpised if someone picks Reinhart up before the Oilers than I would be if he goes unclaimed.

McPhee and Benning are looking like GOAT despite never having done anything good for their team.

It's like Jim Rutherford all over again.

60+ points player is what I see Pulju becoming. You don't move these type of players for Kreider who is more of temporary help. I don't have a timeline when he reaches his potential. It might actually be a blessing in disguise when Pulju reaches it after we extends him on a cheap deal. I understand Pulju isn't helping us at the moment but Kreider isn't going to make us that much better.

We can't get a #1D with Pulju+ then we should just stand pat and explore other trades.

I really hope we don't see any panic moves happen here. I don't think this season is lost yet, but if it is... so be it.

Without injuries to Sekera and Drai early, we would have a winning record right now, I'm sure of it. Making the playoffs in this tough league isn't just talent, its circumstance.

Tampa - Missed the playoffs last year due to injuries, cup favourites again this year. Also missed playoffs twice after round 3 visit.
Dallas - Benn and Seguin have missed playoffs 2 of last 3 years.
Pittsburgh - Held onto playoffs in 2015 by a hair, got knocked out easily.
LA - Missed 2 of last 3 years. Seem to be back on track.

What we are missing badly is speed and scoring. We have 2 of the best prospects in the world for that in Yamamoto, and Puljujarvi. Don't force those kids to try and fix now what might just be unfortunate circumstance and putting them above their heads.

1) Send Yama down now. Focus resources on proper development for both him and Pulju,
2) Chia should try to do what he does best, find the next Kassian/Maroon deal... just different type of player this time.
3) If we miss the playoffs, so be it. Let's hope we get some draft lottery luck in this super deep draft. If we do miss this year, I'm sure this team will come out with a vengeance next year and have a Tampa Bay like start.

I'd be happy to claim Reinhart. Familiar with the team and the system, and TMac did trust him with a playoff game last year.

He'd be more stable than Gryba or Auvitu and that's what the team needs on its 3rd pairing.

I'd rather move a contract for Garisson w/ retainment, but...

Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-Russell
Reinhart-Benning

... would be decent until you get Sekera back (in a few weeks?).

If Oilers claim Reinhart and he miraculously turns into a #4D for us down the road, I'd gladly eat crow. It'll soften the blow of missing out on Barzal

Arizona and Colorado to name two teams that will probably make a claim. He's still a young, former 4th OA pick, someone will take the gamble. We should put in a claim since he is better then anything we have for the 7th D spot right now.

I'm not sure why Keider (albeit a good player) is such a target, the player that needs to be upgraded is Letestu.

For a PP/PK specialist having both units being bottom 5 should be a major indictment. The fact that he has played 10 games on the top unit without picking up an asset should be a major red flag, and I also don't want to know the # of PK goals against he's been on the ice for...

Go get a RH shot who can actually shoot, or give one of the other other inhouse options a legit chance on the top unit. Give Strome or Slepyshev a game on the top unit, and if they fail then go sign PAP or trade for a Vanek or Vrbata.

Kreider is an extremely good forward. Hockey is played at both ends of the ice and he is very good offensively and defensively and has size and speed as well.

If the Oilers could somehow wrangle him away from the Rags... I'd be all over that. I don't care what position he plays on the Oilers... it would be an upgrade for this roster.

I can't see the Rangers trading him as he's one of their best all-around players, but if they wanted to make a shake up change like that... then I'd deal a fairly decent asset + pick to acquire him.

If we bring in Kreider we should trade Maroon at the deadline

I agree as Maroon isn't coming back.

Squeeze some value at least in a trade, gms will put in decent offers on a player like Maroon.

If the Oilers are really serious about getting Kreider then it'll have to be RNH for Kreider. McDavid gets a new LW. Maroon gets moved down to 3LW. Either gets extended for under 3M or he walks.

The Oilers should also make a move for Shipachev.
