Just to be clear, Galchenyuk has to take responsibility for his actions and lack of progress. His meddling father, his off ice issues, he needs to get a handle on all of that. He's only 23, but somewhere, he needs to grow up and take meaningful steps toward becoming the player that his talent suggests he could be.

Just as the Habs need to take responsibility for how he was rushed to the NHL, mishandled by Therrien and Bergevin and now is continuing to be thrown under the bus by both Bergevin and Julien, and deployed in such a manner as to negatively impact on his trade value. Put the player in a position to succeed.

Ultimately, the exercise is not about assigning blame, it's about realizing the best return on the player from an asset management perspective. The Habs cannot change Galchenyuk's off ice or personal issues, so they only need to do their part, as it is evident that the player will be traded. I just want to make sure the Habs receive fair value when it happens and strictly towards that end, I would humbly prefer if the Habs changed their approach toward the player so as to help him raise his stock.
I think you reach a point of no return. He's in his 6th season. Galch will be a 45-50ish pt player. Maybe on a really good year, he'll top off around 60pts, on a mediocre one, around 40. Those players are always going to be streaky.
I think once they finally accept what he has become, then it will be much easier for them to start using him intelligently. Punishing him because he made a defensive mistake is just pointless. It's not going to fix anything.

If they can't accept that, then just move him while he still has value otherwise they will keep benching him, which won't make him happy or play any better, and that will lower his worth.

Trading is pointless for this team unless you are trading futures, which is also not a good idea because the best thing this team can do is hold on to futures and rebuild.

You want a good top pairing LD? Well, looks like you have to trade a top 6 player and one of our better prospects. Oh, what? Now our top 6 sucks and our prospect pool is firmly cemented as the worst in the league? Now our offense is even worse and there is even less hope of a prospect coming in to help? Darn.

How about adding a top 6 forward? Well, looks like you have to trade a young Dman like Mete and a pick. Oh, what? Now our defense is significantly worse both now and in the future, and now we dont have a good pick to use to improve our bad prospect pool? Chucks.

Well, we are deep at the goaltending position, certainly we can trade a goalie for an upgrade! Wait, what? Goaltenders have the lowest value in terms of position, with prospects having horrible value altogether? Oh well.

Bad drafting, developing, asset management, and player signings (I mean, lackthereof), has created this damned if you do and damned if you don't situation for this team. Our organizational depth sucks. It flat out just sucks.

Good luck improving an area of this team without severly hampering another. You can't lose valuable assets for absolutely nothing and then try and replace them with disposable assets you don't have.

No worries, I have it on good authority that anything can happen.

lol "expect the unexpected".

Bergevin will do what he is best at, which is making lots of calls and doing nothing of substance.

Or... You know... mixing it up a little and making a horrific trade that further delves this franchise into disrepair. You know, the usual.

Amen.
Been saying thus for a while and its time to put everything down and start again. Perfect year to sell, retain on plek, sell patch while he still has value and isnt a simple rental. Wich will also make sure we dont keep him and handicap this team with a lucrative contract for a few good year left before decline. From there be creative, make everyone available for the right price, exept guys like drouin, mete, poehling, etc. Its a no brainer that this team is only procrastinating the real rebuild wich will likely happen has are overpriced vets decline, shitty prospect pool. The year in between will just be plain boring, predictable and painful!

Except that he'll keep making calls whenever LeBrun and Garrioch are around, so they'll continue pimping his fake legend.

New show on Comedy Central. Bergevin would fit right in.

What's the ++ from us in a Poehling-Draisaitl trade? Does that go down to some + if Ryan has a killer WJC?

...or would you keep Poehling no matter what? Cap is going up.

Who else comes to see if Chucky has been traded yet or if there’s any credible rumours.

Isn’t it a forgone conclusion that he’ll be traded at this point?

There's little doubt about it. It's just a matter of when.
