Yeah, a 2nd seems like it is very possible. I wonder if we can move him to Chicago, take back Bickell and get a first+.

Nah. We'd move someone without much value and just get a couple of lower assets back. For example Cowen for Bickell +.

What makes Hudler the bigger name compared to Parenteau? If anything playing in Toronto should make Parenteau the bigger name.

Parenteau is more of a PP specialist but on a good team won't be getting top PP minutes.

Hudler also has far higher upside.

Personally I think the Leafs are probably looking at a 3rd like Purcell brought in. Possibly even a bit lower.

oh, I hear ya traps

but understand, I believe that lou promised to trade MM this TD and that's why he waived.

why else would he waive to come here?

2 options:
1.
As you said, he'd be moved to a contender.

2.
He bought into the idea that he would work with Babs, mentor the young guys up and down the lineup.
This is your Nylander shelter vet.

We will have a better idea Feb. 29.

Parenteau is more of a PP specialist but on a good team won't be getting top PP minutes. 15 of his 32 points are on the PP.

Hudler by comparison only has 9 of his 35 points on the PP. Hudler also has far higher upside.

Personally I think the Leafs are probably looking at a 3rd like Purcell brought in. Possibly even a bit lower.

Hudler's cap hit is $4 million ... Purcell's is $4.5

No reason to think that PAP can't get more value in a trade because of his significantly smaller contract.

Only 9 of Parenteau's points have been on the powerplay: https://www.nhl.com/player/pierre-alexandre-parenteau-8469707

I don't know how many times I've heard PAP called a PP specialist (Dreger & Lebrun have said it repeatedly). It's very frustrating to hear this mindless drivel repeated over and over again.

He's an offensive player, but he produces offense at even strength as well as on the powerplay.

I would add Stempniak to that list. NJ will be sellers. He has outproduced PAP and Vrbata.

Outproduced through top line minutes and a sky high on ice shooting percentage. If you look at ES P/60, PAP is actually ahead. Same with possession stats. ALthough I do still think he would go for the highest price.

Regardless, if Stempniak is on the market then that makes all wingers worth less.

No, he'd be traded for a cap dump. I'm just showing the guys we'd potentially trade and the money attached to them. Really, the only guys worth retaining on (unless it's a cheap guy getting an increased return) are Grabner and (if we trade them) Stalock and Smith.

My fault. I mis-read. He could be in the UFA category too.

I'm not expecting much. Hopefully Lou can make a ton of deals and acquire some good assets but I'm not holding my breath. I still find it funny that other teams would want this crap.

My mistake on the PP #'s.

Still would be surprised if he brought in a 2nd like Hudler. Florida wasn't concerned about the cap # of Hudler.

Hudler still offers higher upside. Hudler has 35 points in 53 games this year and was almost a PPG last year.

Parenteau has 32 in 59 games this year and was bought out by Montreal.

Where do you get your information from?

Pa s PP points are not even close to accurate

I'm sure this is out there already too, but FLA closing in on signing Moose Jaw FA Dryden Hunt as well.

Oh no - I was expecting Leafs to sign him - not a good day on this "common Trades" thread

So do the Leafs trade for Bickell and Laich, or just one? Or neither? 2 or more of Smith, Stalock, Arcobello or Cowen would be shipped out in that case.

Maybe Higgins would be in that group as well.

hoping we can pick up another 2nd this year, so decent dmen

Agreed. My guess before the deadline started was 4-6 picks but I assumed we would have a few more picks at this years draft.

Since the Phaneuf trade
2016 4th Round Pick
2017 2nd Round Pick
2017 2nd Round Pick
2018 2nd Round Pick
2018 4th Round Pick

Pending UFA list
Grabner
Parenteau
Arcobello
Boyes

Was there any reason you expected the Leafs to sign him?

Last year, Parenteau was at 1.55 ES P/G, but he was only given 4th line ice time (good job, Therrien). That's almost the same as this year. The year before that he was at 2.07. Parenteau getting bought out by Montreal was Montreal's failure, not PAP's.

Hudler's most common linemates last year and this year were Gaudreau and Monahan. PAP's were Bozak and Matthias.

Caps have just placed Brooks Laich on waivers.

I could see a deal around Cowen for him.

Laich buyout goes:
16-17: 1.83
17-18: 1.33

Vs.

Cowen buyout goes:
16-17: cap relief of 650K (for the Capitals. We wouldn't qualify to use this cap relief).
17-18: 750K

We'd throw in Grabner or Winnik to fill the PK role that Laich currently fills for the Caps.

We'd buyout Laich. Caps would buyout Cowen.
