I think Patrick would be alright as a cheap pickup. Maybe there’s the chance he turns into something? With Dubois looking as worrisome as he is, it wouldn’t be bad to pickup another young, big C.

I meantioned that in the last thread. If he comes cheap enough it might help him out being home. Start him out on the 3rd line and see if he can work his way up from there on the wing. Maybe he explodes here and we can get him into the top 6 and possibly as a top 6 C.

I only get Patrick if we lose Copp. They're probably a very similar player, but Copp is established and the real deal. Patrick will take a lot of work and likely tops out as a 3W on our squad.

I think Chevy underwhelms. Again.

I agree, Dax. I think that playing at home and with local friend and family support would be beneficial for him - I think Winnipeg might be where he has the best chance at succeeding.

My buddy actually ran into him yesterday in Winnipeg. Should've asked him to ask for a trade here

A few options here. Trade Copp for a defenceman. Expose Copp to Seattle for a pick and to protect Stanley/DeMelo/Appleton. Maybe package Copp and our first up for a defenceman? Dumba? Dumba has two years left but he's a prairie boy, maybe he would extend? Minny can't protect Dumba anyway because Suter, Brodin and Spurgeon all have NMCs. It's possible they do eight skater, but both Zuccarello and Parise have NMCs so that's already five players they have to protect. Dumba only has one extra year compared to Copp so maybe the Wild bite rather than lose Dumba for nothing (or trade assets to protect him).

If we make that trade we likely have to use some wizardry to keep Stanley and DeMelo away from Seattle - do we offer them a pick to take Appleton? I'm not sure.

Bring in Patrick for a mid-round pick (if that's available) and sign Armia. And bring back Lewis/Perreault (depending on cost)

Connor Scheifele Wheeler (sigh)
Ehlers Dubois Perfetti
Patrick Lowry Armia
Vesalainen Gustafsson Perreault/Lewis

Morrissey Dumba
Heinola Pionk
Stanley/Samberg DeMelo

Not bad...

What do we think of kaliyev(rw) from the kings. If we add a top pair d man maybe we should move heinola for him. Just a thought. Maybe small add from kings

Why? I guess we need RW depth but not at the expense of our D IMO

We could use the goal scoring threat, He has a great shot. And the kings seem heavy on forward prospects.

Patrick is a better right winger in my opinion.

They are very different players. Copp has stone hands but good defensively. Patrick has fantastic hands but concussions and injury prone. Not so great in own end but in the right circumstances and opportunity 50 goals could happen.

Armia is a snail and disappears for 10 games at a time. He's a third line PK specialist at best, not a 1st liner.

I'm not convinced Brossoit comes back either.

This is what I came up with, rather ho hum, no big signings, mostly internal.

Copp lost in the expansion draft, without any other losses.

6 years for Pionk, 6m AAV
5 years for Stanley, 2.5 AAV (I think he might be a guy the Jets want to get long term, rather than play the bridge game)
2 years for Perreault, at less than half of what his salary was.

Re-signed Toninato

UFA signings were Bozak, Ceci, and Reimer. I think guys that would come at decent value.

Traded Niku to Calgary for a 7th round pick.

As much as I wanted to put Kovacevic on the roster I said what is behind him, if he goes down. And I don't think any of the other RD are NHL ready, so better to have the kid work his way up.

I started Heinola on the Moose, because I think Samberg will get a fair shot. And his physical game might be called upon if Forbort is not re-signed. Still room for him to grow into the team as well. Heinola and Kovacevic at least make the defense 9 deep.

He was rock solid when Ottawa went to the Cup in 2017. Then played on some bad teams, and played bad. That +18 on Pittsburgh this year would look good. Interchangeable with De Melo. I think he's someone True North has had interest in before.

Do you think he’d be able to handle top pairing minutes? Or is it gonna be like when Morrissey has to try to carry Beaulieu and Poolman?

Better option than Poolman in my opinion. Like I said interchangeable with De Melo. That's the big thing for me is the drop off from De Melo has to be addressed. Poolman could be a 3rd pairing d-man but never could be a 1st. I think I'd prefer Ceci over Savard. With Samberg and Heinola in the mix, I think there needs to be a little more fluidity to have some different combinations that can work. I like that he had strong PK metrics because that's the important spot to fill, as I don't think Pionk is a good PK option on the right side.

The Outer Limits.
17 ES points this year is 5 more than Josh Morrissey, and he had one more goal too.

That means nothing. Bring him into a Maurice coached system and he’ll be just like all the other turd bottom pairing defensemen getting played way too many minutes by Maurice because veteran experience trumps actual skill.

I like the idea of a massive youth movement and getting Armia again, but Harkins still doesn't make the team? Based on what I read from Flyers fans, Patrick was worse than replacement level last year. He hasn't played much good hockey in a long time, so it's not a given he gets back to even a middle-6 level. I'd rather go with Harkins personally.

Eventually Chevy must figure out that it doesn't matter how well he drafts if his coach refuses to play good young players instead of known shitty players like Benn. Every off season I've been excited for roster changes, good young players making the team (next year the defense will get better... right?), etc. but this year all I really want is a new coach. I don't care if we magically acquire prime Crosby, the Jets are doomed to failure with Maurice's awful systems and lineup decisions. He may have just hobbled Samberg and Heinola's development by sitting them the entire season. Now we're to expect they'll somehow make the team next year, despite getting no development time this year and that will solve our problems on D? It's f***ing insane.

edit: also noticed you protected Appleton and then left him off the roster. I assume he'd at least replace Perreault/Lewis on the 4th.
