Are Leaf fans happy about this deal? Up till yesterday fans wanted Marners head for asking 11ish mill... and now its reality and going thru alot of this thread, it seems like alot of fans are estatic

I'm okay with it. Leafs have a tough cap road ahead, but it could have been much worse. I'm happy he signed and we didn't trade him for pennies on the dollar, that's for sure.

Personally i'm happy it's over and we have our team together. I'm not over the moon about the value of the Matthews/Marner deals, but we still have one of the best teams in the league. If recent draft picks turn out we'll be fine, along with nice value deals like Kapanen/Johnsson and overseas signings. Other fans can shit on us about the teams salary structure, but most are just haters and jealous that they don't have the roster Toronto has.

Made more than Barkov and MacKinnon inflated. Got almost a million more than Larkin who signed the same year.

He got overpaid, and that as a non-top 3 player on his team, which was already doing successful.

In reality, Dubas should've had all the leverage in that negotiation, and he still ****ed it up. Even if you think it was a minor overpayment, it shouldn't have been any overpayment at all considering the circumstances. Nylander should've been begging Dubas to give him any kind of money for the year.

As a Leaf fan I couldnt agree with you more.

All this seems so obvious.

Dubas is good at the drafting and trading side of things but he's brutal at signings. The Leafs will have what? Three of the five highest players in the league? And then Nylander.
It's hard to imagine how anyone could have done worse on this.
The window looks like it is the next few years. The team should be really strong for those years though.

Honest question: if Dubas put any of Tavares, Marner, Matthews and Nylander on the trading block, with their current contracts, do you think they'd last a week before getting serious offers?

They should be happy. Their best player just got locked up for less than Matthews and Tavares.
I'd have to wonder if Dubas didn't promise Marner the captaincy to get him to sign a team friendly deal like this.

Being a Minnesotan fan I always thought we had die-hard fans, but Toronto created a 48 page thread in under 3 hours after an RFA resigned. Our whole team discussion didn’t have that many replies all year last year. You guys are hardo. Good for you
Cheers. Is Kaprizov expected in the lineup this year? Excited to see him play.

Almost an $11 million AAV!
Had you told Leaf fans at the beginning of the summer this would have been the deal they would have tarred and feathered Dubas. I guess the 'leaks' served their purpose of preparing the fans so they could say, hey it's not as bad as we were expecting.
Man,imagine living in this world.

I assume Mitch is still public enemy number 1 in TO? Fans have been livid with his demands and just under 11 mill is crazy.

I'm just in shock where salaries are going in this league without the cap significantly raising much lately
He was public enemy #1 when he was at 11 x 8. 10.9 x 6 which I think is a better deal for Mitch when he cashes in again in 6 years at just 100k less AAV. I would imagine he would still be in the doghouse. But who knows. Fans can be a fickle lot.

Other than Matthews theyd all get less than fmv. Because of contracts.

When Kevin Hayes is getting $7 million and Trouba getting $8 million, no it's not sarcasm

When Pasternak is getting 7 and kucherov is getting 9.5, and Crosby is getting 9, and Kane is getting 10.5, yes this is overpayment

MOD NOTE: we're not going to allow this thread to go sideways because of certain fans. Follow the rules - no exceptions.

Don’t know if this should be in megathread, but this is big ****. Hopefully speeds the rfa standstill up.

Update:

Good to see this saga end. Hope the other RFAs follow up quickly.

PS: Sureloss of cp gets his info quick :)

Their has been a big push for high % 3F - 1R - 1D -1G over the last 2 yrs.
It resulted in a league evga/60 median change from the 07/08 to 16/17 of 2.33 to 2.39.
To
17/18 was 2.57 evga/60; 2.37/2.57 = 92.22% reduction factor
18/19 was 2.64 evga/60; 2.37/2.64 = 89.77% reduction factor.

Even performance rates:
14/15 to 16/17 avg NYI.
Tavares 1319:17; 1.08 evg/60; 2.29 evp/60
Adjusted for 18/19: 1.20 evg/60; 2.55 evp/60

18/19 with Marner: 1131:03; 1.64 evg/60; 2.97 evp/60

Tavares is going to be very happy he is playing with elite passer Marner.

18/19:
Tavares: 82gm 47G 41A 88P
6@ 11.0M

Mathews: 68gm 37G 36A 73P
5@ 11.634M

Marner: 82gm 26G 68A 94P
6@ 10.893M

110G 145A 255p for 33.527M

Thinks back to all the TOR media saying EDM was handcuffed by Mcdavid Draisaitl contracts.

Draisaitl: 82gm 50G 55A 105P
6@ 8.5M smiles realizing
-Cap hit is a steal
- Mathews contract expires a yr before

Mcdavid: 78gm 41G 75A 116P
7 @ 12.5M smiles realizing
- Marner contract expires a yr before Mcdavid

RNH: 82gm 28G 41A 69P
2@ 6.0M

119G 171A 290P for 27M

9G and 45P more for 6.527M less.
Smiles!

Congratulations to Mitch Marner.
The young man does deserve the Contract.

Point, Laine, Tkachuk negotiations.
6 yr @ ????

Interesting!

For posterity:

First, it was, "You can't keep all those great players while keeping your good, secondary players."
Then it was, "Okay you kept them, but you will have to fill out your roster with plugs making league minimum." Meanwhile, Dubas signs capable players in Spezza, Mikheyev, and others to cheap deals.

Now it's, "All that money for Marner and Co. who have never won a round in the playoffs" and "Most of your D are UFAs next year."

It's just comical to me how the haters keep moving the goal line, just to get served crow time and time again. When the Leafs win a playoff round next year, and a suitable outcome is found to shore up the D, what will be the next failed mantra?

Very misleading.
Must include when the contract was signed (% of cap at the time too) and how many years are left to have any sort of context.
At least you included the ages though!
