That's actually quite good. Didn't retain any salary either I believe.

Smith is decent center depth for the Marlies.

Nice. Just a small move that adds another pick and prospect to the mix.

Exactly the kind of return we signed this guy for.

A bit under sized but hes entertaining to watch.

Has playes a two-way role before but I think he easily plugs into a Top 9 Center spot for the Marlies.

Him and Leipsic on a line would be fun to watch.

I think he will get a few games in with the Leafs this year.

That's pick #12 for the Leafs in the upcoming draft.

Really happy about this deal. Didn't think Matthias would get any return.

Considering most of us didn't expect much more than a 5th rounder, so this is a solid return for a player that did almost nothing all year.

And we didn't retain salary, which is gives us a little more options to move perhaps Grabner at 50%.

lmao Matthias sucked this year.. one of the biggest disappointments from our bargain bin of FA's.
Glad we got a pick :handclap: and not a horrible one either!

But so it begins...

Smith is a smaller centerman in the AHL.

Very good AHL top-6 center. Has the skill and tenacity to be an NHLer, but his size will always be an issue.
If given time, he could become an NHLer, but was never gonna become one with the Avs and how we want bigger guys at center.

Should help the Marlies to become even more dominant though

Any chance this Smith kid starts with us? I want Nylander to get some more AHL games under his belt before we call him up/

Or is Leipsic back with us?

I really like this deal for the Leafs. I was only expecting a 4th or 5th for Matthias, so adding a prospect is a bonus.

It's funny, watching the Marlies yesterday I was thinking to myself that they seemed a little weaker down the middle than on the wings. This trade addresses that.

I think he will get a few games in with the Leafs this year.

He has versatility too. He can play top 9, bottom 6, center, right wing, and he could probably play both PP and PK. He has to make it next year or be exposed to waivers, but there should be a spot open on the 4RW or maybe even 3C spot with his name on it if he looks good this year.

Plus I was right about his value, so once again, I'm happy about that :D
