Whatever draft he's in (yes he's eligible for '08), Staal won't sniff the top 90.

As for David Toews, he's a fine hockey player but don't expect him to have the impact his brother will. I've been following them both for a few years, David isn't at that level. He is a fine prospect, probably a late first rounder who could develop into a solid third liner - maybe second liner if he really develops over the next few years.

Another name for your list is Russian defenseman Maxim Chudinov. He's a little guy but had 2G-2A in 7 games at the U18 tournament, and will be playing in the Summit series next month. I know he did really well at the Mac's tournament in Calgary last year.

I could see him going in the 3rd or 4th round.

I remember before he was drafted, there was debate over who Sarnia would take first in the OHL priority draft(I think it was Stamkos vs Doughty). I knew one guy who said at the time that he would have taken Staal over Stamkos.

Looking back now I'm happy Sarnia took Stamkos. Not to diss Staal, I think he'll be a good player, just not the same depth as Stamkos.

Stamkos 90 and Doughty 89 were drafted a year apart ... maybe Stamkos /Delzotto or Pietrangelo?

As mentioned before, you might have the wrong draft year.

Also, I think I read somewhere that Sudbury taking Staal in the first round was controversial because most felt he was only a 3rd-4th round talent and Foligno only took him because of his name.

It was Stamkos and Del Zotto and they went one ,two in the draft.
I recall because Tavares scored in the last few seconds in the last game of the year allowing Sarnia to finish last and take Stamkos. Oshawa took Del Zotto second.

Youre right about Staal...most scouting agencies had him in the 60-70 range...he went top 10...

I know you're buddies with Luke Adam, but you seriously have to drop him from your top 3 rounds...he isnt even the best 2008 prospect on his own team...

I know CHL prospects are frequently overrated early...but just 3 NCAA prospects out of the top 45 (a full round and a half)?

Suggestion is to start over.

Insteading of saying that why dont you list the NCAA prospects he missed....

There are always statistical anomolies...who knows if one NCAA prospect will go in the top 45 in 2008...just because past history has shown more than 3 will be taken in the top 45 doesnt mean more than 3 will be taken in 2008.

I've been looking, and let me tell you, NCAA is dry for Drafting this year, unless you want to give me names.
