It’s funny, looking at that list, Callahan’s contract does not look too shabby. Plus, He was one of the few to show up throughout the entire playoffs. So that def puts some value back.

Really surprised there's a contract for 3 years under 4.5million on your list but you left off Carey Price's contract's off lol.

Price is the worst.

For him to be worth his deal, he has to play significantly better than at Vezina level.

If he has a similar season to 2017-18 yes..
If he bounces back to 16-17... No. Overpaid yes.

I will give Price another year before claiming he's one of the worst contracts in the league, especially when he had numbers like this the last 4 years.

Even so is that worth 10.5M?

Any contract on the list had to have NMC. With expansion coming up it will lead to another phaneuf situation

Unless he plays at .935+, he is not worth his deal. He has to be the best by a wide margin; that's the standard his contract suggests.

I would add Frans Nielsen as a HM atleast.

4 years remaining at 5.25m with NMC, which I believe means we'll have to protect him in the coming expansion draft unless he waives (I could be slightly off here).

Nathan Horton still has 2 x $5.3M. It's not insured though. So it's fortunate the Leafs were able to burry/carry that hit. The cash means nothing.

It's nice to see that there are enough horrible contracts in the NHL that Andrew Macdonald's now only makes it as an honourable mention. Or maybe it's because every time this thread arises there is less and less time left on that horribad contract.

July 1st 2020, it's party time!

Not exactly. The cap is going higher all the time, Price eats practically the same percentage of the salary cap as Lundqvist when he signed his contract. Expect other established elite UFA goalies to get similar contracts in the near future, Bob's next.

Pretty sure Nashville is paying $9mil per to a guy that is 4th on their depth chart and was absolutely abysmal during the playoffs the last 3 rounds

Toews captains his team to 3 Cups in 6 years, but somehow is undeserving of being paid. Interesting thought process ladies

Cal Clutterbuck should be on this list. Garth gave him a stupid long term contract, which is something you NEVER give a 4th liner. He's in Steve Ott at the end territory in terms of how bad a player he is at this point.

They just need a bounce back season. Brown was a regular on the list before last seasons resurrection, nary a peep now.

X2.

On top of that:

-The deal runs until he's 39YO
-Since the last 2 years of the deal are mostly signings bonuses, the deal is essentially buyout proof. It doesn't matter if he's bought out in this summer, 2019, 2020 or 2021, the cap penalty for 21-22 will always be north of $4.25M and goes up the earlier the buyout happens. Additionally, if he's bought out between 2018-2020, the cap penalty for 20-21 is only $1M less than the already huge penalty for 21-22.
