Other thread got closed and since our season is all but over I figured I would make another thread.

I have posted this before, but here is what I do this summer.

- extend Schneider (6 years, $40 million)
- extend Greene (same contract Girardi just got)
- sign Stastny (6 years, $42 million)
- sign M. Raymond (3 years, $10.5 million)
- re-sign Jagr (1 year, $4.5 million)
- re-sign Fayne (4 years, $12 million)
- re-sign Carter (2 years, $1.8 million)
- re-sign Larsson (2 years, $2 million)
- re-sign Gelinas (3 years, $3 million)
- re-sign Josefson (1 year $0.8 million)
- re-sign Kinkaid (2 years, $1.3 million)
- amnesty Bryce Salvador (saves $3.167 million)
- let Gionta walk
- let Bernier walk
- let Zidlicky walk (or trade THIS year at the deadline)

I seriously consider tank mode for next year. Let Jagr and Zid's walk, trade Cory.

Here's what I would do in a perfect world.

Salvador - compliance buyout
Ryder - Normal buyout
Marty - Retirement/Sign with another team
CBGB - release to FA
Jagr - 1 yr, $3 million (maybe 3 million as he said he isn't looking to break the bank)
O. Jokinen - 3 years, $4.5
J. McClement - 3 years, $1.5 (great 4th line faceoff guy. Spot duty third liner)
Schneider - 6 years, $6 million
Zidlicky - 1 year, $3 million
Kinkaid - Welcome to the primary backup role kid!
Vanek - 7 years, $8 million. (My guess is he doesn't wind up in Minnesota as they seem to really like Moulson and he'll be cheaper for them. If he does, I'd go for Moulson)

So my roster would look like this:

LW: Vaenk, Zubrus, Clowe, Matteau
C: Zajac, Henrique, Jokinen, McClement
RW: Jagr, Elias, Ruutu, Brunner
D: Greene/Larsson, Zids/Merrill, Volch/Gelinas, 7th Fayne (pairs vet with youth on each)
G: Schneider/Kinkaid

Give Boucher another year in the minors to develop, call him up when necessary.

Cap payroll : $68,209,959, high end cap space: $2,890,041.

As for the coach, I'd be surprised if he survives this season/off season so I won't even speculate on that one. I guess if he does, give him a shot with a decent roster, if he doesn't, hire Guy Boucher so he can stab the opposition if we are losing ;)

I don't think Fayne would accept a #7 role. Fans of other teams seem to think he's a good pickup at 2.5-3.5 mil

I'd make a play for Kane.

He's been rumored to be on the block, he's young, scores goals, has speed and grit, decent contract for awhile, Value is prob not as high as it has been, so maybe could be had a little bit on the cheap. Obviously would have to deal a young d-man to do so, which I'm OK with.

You get him, you get Stastny, re-sign Jagr, and we have quickly become a significantly better team.

Gone: Bernier, Ryder, Zubrus, One of Salvador/Volch (Prefer both)

I really do not want to go through another FA of overpaying. Elite teams are built through TRADING and DRAFTING. This is is where some package of Gelinas+ is sent for some young skilled forward. Getting guys like Gaborik and Stastny do not put us as contenders.

Elias-Henrique-Trade

Gelinas traded, so Zidlicky is needed once again unfortunately. But he should be limited in his ice time if the kids take a leap forward. Sign a young depth defense man in the mold of Fayne and here we are. This process will take some time but a lot of deadweight needs to be removed once again and a serious youth injection is needed the next few years.

I want Lou and Pete gone.

The new GM to shed deadweight and refresh this stale franchise. I'm talking new scouts, coaches and a total culture change. Enough with the country club atmosphere.

Trade out or release all of the garbage in the lineup. These guys are far too comfortable.

Brodeur to understand that if he's back, it's purely in a backup role.

The way I see it, I don't see how they don't suck next season. I very much doubt that any of the prized UFA's see this as a good destination right now. We're more than a Stastny away from contention.

This franchise needs an enema up the backside. Time to start new.

- Sign Stastny
- Pursue Vanek. When he signs in MIN, trade Greene to Wild for Coyle +
- Re-sign Jagr
- Call-up Boucher, Matteau, Kinkaid
- Re-sign Zidlicky, Fayne
- Deal Ryder and Brunner to teams that can better-utilize them
- Trade Salvador
- Extend Schneider

We'd be right up against the cap, but Jagr, Elias, Zubrus, Zidlicky, and Fayne will likely be gone over the next 12-24 months. Let the kids play and build chemistry.

A couple months ago and I would have thought this was crazy.

But I'm agreeing with 99% of it. I'm just sure I'm ready to give Lou his walking papers just yet, but damn does he have to be close at this point.

It would be a good year to tank no?

And if tanking is the goal, do you change your stance on Marty?

Nope. Marty being here = Cory not signing long term. I firmly believe that. For two reasons:

(1) This organization has a hard-on for it's legend. Will cave every time he throws a public tantrum. Especially if Pete is here, Marty is going to start far more games than he should be starting.

(2) Because of 1, Cory will probably be pissed off to the point of no return.

Heck I was one of the people stating everyone was overreacting about Cory leaving in the beginning of the year. But watching the way Pete has straight caved to Marty has been hilarious. I won't turn this into Cory/Marty. Has nothing to do with performance or who is better whatever. Just Cory will always be second fiddle while Marty is here so I don't re-sign Marty.

Yes. Because:

Henrique - Zajac - Jagr
Grabovski - Stastny - Tarasov
Gagner - Elias - Boucher
Nieto - Josefson - Matteau

Isn't as awful as this terrible team. Money talks. Overpay them. Don't even care at this point. Get impact forwards at all costs.

IF we lose Greene for nothing I'm going to lose it. Trade him before he leaves or we overpay him.

I will be very, very surprised if Greene leaves for another team. He loves it here and (i hate using this expression) is a prototypical Devil and possibly our next captain.
