Sure they are in need of a statement win. The issue is still, however, that they are missing Stamkos while Kucherov is not ready yet. Not saying that their lineup tonight is any sort of cakewalk, however, the Canes are likely icing a better roster than they are right now.

Absolutely. I'm thinking less about the talent matchup and more about the compete-level matchup. This would be a good time to bring the A-game and assert some level of psychological dominance over a likely future playoff opponent, particularly one which is going to get a lot better in about 3 weeks.

Brother will hit brother
Spilling blood across the ice
Playing for the Division
Only 100% will suffice

Fans like me, who cheer & scream
For our NHL adopted sons
Carolina’s the team, yes I believe
They can finish number one

Hurricanes when united
Tampa will not stand
Energy replaced, getting in their face
And where it counts be in command

As the game nears, it will not be clear
What is Brindy’s plan
Don't look now to media anyhow
He'll never tip his hand

Mind Game Wars!

Media have their podium, as the
Know it all scholars
Voting in judgement
Often wrong, having a hidden cause
Up on my soapbox, the leader
Of the Jack Adams race
Should be Rod
Than voting for Someone just because

Wage the war on Tampa, let's fight.
Hope the sneak attacks, from Lightning
Get called tonight
Yes they earned the Lord Stanley
But tonight we live to destroy thee
Their Division lead hopes shall die, shall die

They went after Svech last game
With hopes he would play lame
First mistake, last mistake!
No longer silent, awakened the giants
Tonight the Boys plan to play great

Tampa given a chance in, with ref game management
Because they don't say it,
Don't mean they ain't thinkin' it
But one thing you know, the Boys can find a way
We know what they did, and all of us cheered
Of what they'd overcome
And the strength of our penalty killing
Penalty killing
Penalty killing
Killing, killing, killing, killing
All that I hope is to clean out Tampa Bay

ps. Thank you @CandyCanes for the GDT. Last line is for you

Vasi at home this year has been completely ridiculous. Was 14-0 until Saturday. Even without Stamkos I think with Vasi in net in Tampa the Lightning should be favored. Tomorrow's a different story unless they go with Vasi back to back which seems unlikely.

The Carolina Hurricanes will be starting a six-game road trip with a back-to-back against the Tampa Bay Lightning Monday and Tuesday night. The team will then play a two-game series against the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars.

Rod Brind’Amour

On how he would describe playing against Tampa Bay:
They’re relentless. You watch how they play, they’re on you all the time. They’re a go-go-go offense. I guess it’s very similar. They don’t bring pucks back. It’s just relentless forecheck. They’re known as a skill team, but you watch and they dump more pucks than most teams. It’s just they’re on you. The difference between this team and a lot of teams is if you mess up, they make you pay and that’s the problem. You just can’t afford to have lapses because they know how to put the puck in the net.
On the key to being effective with an aggressive system: Every team is basically playing the same thing. I think it’s more that you’ve got to have that energy and you can’t take a breath. It’s hard work and at the end of the day, when we’re successful, it’s because we’re competing hard and we’re digging in. That’s just the way it goes.
They said it: Brind’Amour, Hamilton, Paquette on upcoming road trip

On how he would describing playing Tampa Bay
: It’s obviously a hard game against them. They won the Stanley Cup last year. I’m not really good at translating over different things like that but they’re definitely a really good team. We know what we’re in for and we have to do our best to prepare for that.
On Jani Hakanpaa: He’s been great. My first impression was on how big he was and right from the start. Big and physical. He’s been great for our team. Had a really nice shot last game and everyone’s been really happy with him and his attitude off the ice. Just a really good guy and it’s been great so far.

On if he likes the two-game sets
: It’s great to have some competition against guys two to three times in a row. It’s less travel too if you’re going to stay for a couple of nights. It’s nice to go out to dinner with the boys if we can go back to normal. I’d think I’d like to continue to do it that way.
On similarities between the Hurricanes and the Lightning: It’s a similar system I think. You want to play fast. Think quick in our zone and go right away in their zone. There’s no breath to take. We want to play fast and physical and I think it’s very similar.
On how Jon Cooper elevates his team: It’s similar for every team. It’s always next-man-up. That’s what they’re doing right now. They have some guys coming in and playing good. Have good team systems and they’re playing well right now. I’m not surprised by it. They’re a good team.

There's a gif of a very slow clap. Thinknits from the movie Rudy. If I wasn't so lazy I would find it and post it here.

Great job Dave would be proud!
