if shinkaruk was a ppg player it would still be reasonable to be skeptical. plenty of good AHL player with good pedigrees have fizzled in the past. the important thing is that everyone's happy with him and that he's finally locking it down

Going back to Utica tied at 1-1. Not a bad situation. Best of three remaining all in Utica. All a team ever says they want is a split in the first two of a series on the road. The Comets have that. They have 4 days to work on their anemic PP and get ready for Wednesday night in a sold out madhouse. If they don't fix the PP, this series will be an even more extremely difficult grind for them. 3 total goals for two games in regulation is not encouraging. The fact that 3 of the 4 goals total counting the OT occurred with the same line on the ice is even less encouraging.

They actually have some team improvement to work on. The other lines have to start contributing and that would do the trick. 2 goals surrendered per game is good enough to win them both if somebody could bulge the twines.

Hockey needs to pull it's head out of it's ass when it comes to reffing.

That's probably true, but do you think they have lines of guys trying to become professional hockey refs? They aren't turning guys away. They have what they get and that's not even enough to provide two refs to every AHL team for every game. Attending all of the Comets' games you never know if you'll have 1 or 2 refs until they come out for the start of the game.

Now if you were to start disciplining and criticizing these dolts for their idiotic calls and lack of game control, how many do you think would stay in the game? This is a real problem facing the powers that be in this great game. Inferior officiating is not doing this great game any assistance. Something needs to be done for sure, but I don't pretend to have the answer. I know for sure there is no quick fix.

The reffing at the next level leaves a lot to be desired as well. This is a problem that won't go away and won't be solved over night if ever.

Utica needs baertsch badly

And right now the only way that could happen is if the Canucks are eliminated and nobody can be pulling for that.

No, the Comets have to settle this themselves. There is enough talent on that team to survive against anyone, but it requires a 100% effort from every guy and right now they are not getting it.

Playoff hockey is desperation hockey and you have to put everything into every shift and right now that's not happening. Too many guys are playing as if this will be easy and are therefore being outplayed. It's the first taste for a lot of these guys and they should have now recognized their current play won't cut it. It's also time for the vets who've been there, done that to exert some simple pressure on those who need to pick it up. No passengers if you're going to win. Green needs to put the hammer down starting on Monday and I'm sure he will.

Really geared up for that first one at the Aud on Wednesday. Long time for the fan base to wait (we've been waiting for many years so a couple more days shouldn't be that tough), but ample time for the team to work out the flaws.

GO COMETS! GO CANUCKS! GO COMETS! GO CANUCKS! GO COMETS! GO CANUCKS! GO COMETS!

Thank you for not being one of those butt hurt minor league fans that doesn't understand that the NHL is much more important, and the AHL is a development league. It must suck to see players leaving for the big leagues, but really if you're an AHL fan you have to deal with it. Good on you.

What an arrogant and unnecessary post. It's ok for Utica fans to want the team they watch have the best available players, and it's unfortunate when the nucks have injuries and dip into the talent pool during playoffs.

Now with 100% less Benning!

Utica has a deep offense. They've got at least 10 guys IIRC who've scored 10 goals on the year and should be able to beat Wolves even without Baertschi.

Clendenning was solid up here for Vancouver, and most certainly does look like an NHL quality player. He and Stanton were a magnificent pairing together, and helped Vancouver through a rash injury situation. If you actually think Biega was better in the NHL than Clendenning was than I question your ability to analyze hockey players.

Beiga was way better than Clendenning during their time up with the Canucks. No idea what you're talking about, maybe you should question your own ability to analyze hockey players?

If Clendenning makes the team next year, just so Benning can save face over losing Forsling on a bust, it will be a sad day.

I happen to agree with the latter, but did I miss where statistics were actually given to support that position?
