It started at the c omplete end of the boardwalk. Kohrs ice cream which was not re-opened yet just burst into flames. With a hot day and really strong wind going north, this spread out of control. There's over two blocks that are burning and the smoke has spread 20+ blocks. Someone said they heard lightning caused this.. but who knows. The whole boardwalk is on fire.

Absolutely devastating. And it's been so dry lately. Thankfully it's supposed to rain a lot later today. Hopefully that at least helps get it under control. Just hope they can keep it contained until it rains. With that wind though....they look like they're having a rough time

wasnt this just finished being rebuilt in may? that sucks

The boardwalk was, but I'm not sure if that pier was opened. I was in Seaside in the Summer when I was visiting in Jersey. They had a couple rides on Casino Pier that were operating. Not sure if Funtown Pier had the rides going.

EarthCam has this cam from South of Funtown Pier where the fire is, if you wanna watch live.

It looks a bit more contained than it did earlier a couple hours ago.

I grew up in Edison and spent many a day on that boardwalk throughout the 70s into the early 80s. Simply horrible to hear and see. That town cannot catch a freaking break.

32 businesses gone I believe, they dug a trench and ripped up the rebuilt boardwalk further north for a fire break. Hopefully that will stop it, the wind really ****ed it up. They're having some water pressure issues still from Sandy so they are pumping from the bay.

That is the exact area. They have done a pretty good job in Hunterdon County preserving their farm land and wooded areas...

For god's sake please get one. Just had 2 run right in front of my truck as I was pulling in the driveway (they're like mosquitoes out here). Post some pics of your catch too; good luck.

God's punishing them for Jersey Shore. MTV headquarters will be plagued by locusts next.

I just got back from scouting...I got caught in that down pour. I got there at 5:45 and thought it doesn't look to bad, I'll go for a walk. Yeah right

I don't like to post pictures on online. Ive done it a few times but I know it offends some people and I rather not do that.

Edit:
Then I went and ate at Chipotle for the first time...Don't get the hype.

Funtown Pier looked like it was just a graveyard for ride parts. They rebuilt the part of the pier but never put any of those rides back together. It remained gated off all summer. At least it's during the offseason (barely). Don't have to deal with evacuating as many people as they would during the peak.

Yeah I didn't think so. They did have some stuff on Casino Pier from what I remember.

and if we are, so what?

Those people and that town have gone through two natural disasters in less than a year and have had to rebuild the towns main attractions and source of revenue up not once but now twice and we're worried about an ad supporting the people of that town and the town itself?

First of all, the comment was tongue in cheek and meant to be humorous, which I assume 99% of people understood.

However, if you want to have a serious conversation on it, I dont think there should be "a town" there in the first place. I dont think humans should build "permanent structures" (an oxymoron as valid as "jumbo shrimp" in this case) on barrier islands. The place is just going to get destroyed again, either 44 days from now, or 44 years from now - but it will happen.

Well, I'll only be listening to channel 111 on SiriusXM for the next few weeks. Maybe occasionally a fix of Ellis, but Metallica 24/7 will dominate my radio.
