I don't expect power back for a week. Too much to fix in NJ.

I think I found the source of my issues though...

got one and enough gas to last a few more days. This is absolutely f***ing ridiculous though. The states infrastructure is god awful, especially power lines wise.
Sorry for all of you guys dealing with this. I was fortunate to be living on high ground during Sandy but did live through the blackout. Outside of the first day of free beer it was no fun at all.

Is that a misprint??

It has to be.

It can't take them SIX F'N DAYS to restore power, can it? :whaaa?:

Yea near me after Sandy I think we were almost a week with out it, but it’s understandable given the damage that storm did. Luckily where I am I didn’t get water damage from that godly storm surge. Sucked not to have power.

this wasn’t nearly as windy as that storm. They also knew what to expect and were supposed to have fixed things up and better prepared after Sandy.

few blocks up houses got power. The biggest issue is the lack of info coming out from the company.

oh and jcp and l stands for jersey can’t power lights.

I don't understand why people bitch about the power company.

When I drove around to look at the damage, it's primarily trees on peoples' property that were clearly distressed that they never cut down on the ground. Somehow it's the power company's fault.

And if the power company tells people to cut their trees down, people will go apoplectic.

"Bury the wires!!" Do people understand how expensive this is? $1-2M per mile. A town like Howell has 223 miles of wires alone.

the power company is supposed to come by and actual cut trees back that get too close. That’s their actual job and jcpl doesn’t do it. They come by and mark it with a ribbon and have to get permission from homeowners to do it, they get it and still don’t do it.

And the amount of damage that happens from trees being too close to the lines and ripping them out no doubt far exceeds replacing the lines underground.

instead we live with a garbage infrastructure and any time a gust of wind comes by we can be without power for hours or in this case a week.

I’ve lived in 2 other states and another country. This state by far has the worst set up for power lines and the worst utility company out of them.

I’ve had power the last couple of days, NOW it goes out. It seems like the NHL wheel of justice meme where it’s totally random now

I can assure you the SE, California, and the Gulf Coast would beg to differ.

But, the reality is that this country (both parties) have been kicking the can down the road on energy infrastructure for decades.

I don't know what the math is, and burying powerlines does seem impractical in the suburbs on the surface. But I'd like to see a breakdown of longterm efficiency and cost/savings.

Man one time my power was out for like 9 hours and I was pissed. A week is insanity. How is it that poorly constructed?
I didn't lose power at all...But apparently there are 500K people around me without it. I didn't say anything because I just didn't want to make anyone feel bad :)

I lived in southern GA, near the last two exits before Florida. Never really had an issue with them like this. They also don’t have 15,000 trees and power lines stacked on top of each other lol. Same with living in Tampa.

It’s wild. Especially since this storm wasn’t here long and the wind def wasn’t that strong outside of a few hard gusts.
and they praised themselves about the money they received after Sandy to build shit up and fix things lol.
