Here's the rationale.

Sens scored 112 goals last season - 2nd fewest in the league.

However....

Make some relatively conservative extrapolations based on our current roster and a moderately healthy season, and you really quickly get up near the top of the league.

Thoughts?

Conservative extrapolations leads to a jump fr om 29th to top 5 . Well it doesn't work like that, you need to see what the team on paper actually does. Oh wait, that team looks like the 11-12 season when we were top 5. Aww yiss.

Top 5 is pretty considerable

Yeah the team was fourth in scoring in 2011-2012 but I'm not comfortable saying it's going to happen again

Top 10 I could see myself calling

Top 5 is a lot harder

When this team is firing on all cylinders playing Mac's system, its certainly reasonable. Heck we were 4th in 2011-2012, which I would have never, ever predicted before that season started. Now that it's somewhat expected, Im not so sure it will happen.

But at the end of the day, I expect a big year from Spezza, Karlsson, Ryan, and a coming out party for Turris (north of 60pts), so I would think that would move us into that bracket. *Fingers corssed*

I might be the only one, but i am also expecting a big year from MacArthur as well.

Our top 6 is definitely better than it was in the 11-12 season, but a lot will be riding on Karlsson, Spezza and Michalek's health is we are to return to a top 5 offensive team.

Spezza, Ryan, Turris, Michalek, Zibanejad, Conacher, KARLSSON......should be enough for 200 goals at the very least :) but i expect more...much more:laugh:

Best way for Melnyk & Co to shut up all this "internal budget" BS and win fans to their side, is make one bold move before season starts. So i predict we start the season with better top 6 than we think it is now.
Top 5 - booring. Top 3 - :naughty:

Mikhalek-Spezza-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Grabovsky?/Selanne?/???????

There will not be any further moves (IMO), top 6 starts out something like:
Conacher-Spezza-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Michalek
That way both Ryan and Michalek play the right side...their natural and preferred position. Zibanejad plays between Greening and Condra. Neil-Smith-JOB/Kassian/Hoffman.

...and yes, that line-up can be top 5 in goals this season.

Spezza - 60 goals
Ryan - 75 goals
Zibanejad - 50 goals
Michalek - 40 goals (in 20 games)
Conacher - 45 goals
Macarthur - 46 goals
Karlsson - 35 goals
Turris - 50 goals
Greening - 1 goal

Conservative estimate.

Will be interesting to see who pots more - Spezza, Ryan or contract-year Michalek.

No Alfie. No Gonchar.
There's no way we will be top five in scoring. NONE.
Don't forget how many times Alfie scored key goals especially in the playoffs. We are going to miss him.

I've been saying this for awhile now! I don't think they're going to be top 5 though, I think they will be top 2.

I don't know why people are underestimating our fire power. We're going to dominate next season. I can't ****ing wait!!

Doubt there will be any adds without subtraction.

Melnyk isn't going to just spend more after all his public statements about containing cost, being financial responsible and needing additional revenue streams.

Doubt we will be top 10. In the two years that Maclean has been here we have struggled to generate offence. I don't see it changing much. Out of the bottom 10 would be nice though and certainly achievable.

What are you talking about? We were in the top 5 in goals for in the 2011-2012 season. For a team that you say struggled to generate offence, that is pretty impressive. If spezza, michalek, ryan and karlsson all stay healthy, then getting into the top 10 in goals for is certainly achievable imo.

The only way we'll struggle offensively is if all our offensive players get hurt...

But what are the chances of that happening?

:sarcasm:

2011/12 we scored 249 putting us in a tie for 4th with Vancouver.

It is very conceivable we get back to that plateau with a healthy roster.

NHL.com had us at 243 and clearly in 4th over Vancouver (241). You might have found something with shootout goals.

Hmm, I thought I was being realistic, yet conservative here:

Spezza 25 65
B. Ryan 30 60
Michalek 25 50
K. Turris 23 50
MacArthur 20 45
Zibanejad 17 40
Karlsson 15 60
Greening 15 35
Conacher 15 35
Condra 10 25
C. Neil 10 25
J. Corvo 7 30
Wiercioch 7 30
Total 219 550

My goal total seems very high only 13 players in, but I don't think those projections are overly optimistic.
