I still don't understand why they haven't tried him on the wing. he can skate, he has speed, can shoot and would make a great 4th forward on the point on the PP. His defensive deficiencies would be much less a concern as a winger.

Right!? It makes a lot of sense, it's not like it's hard to find a use for a player with his skills.

Based on what?

The guy clearly has high end offensive skills. But his defensive play is lack luster.

He's got 2 more years of waiver eligibility you don't think he'll learn?

This whole debate about subban is absolutely ridiculous. It reminds me of the debate about Hutton not being good enough defensively to play in the ahl so we had to be replaced by freaken negrin. Come to think of it the people that are arguing against Huttons play in the ahl that year are the same ones arguing against subban.
Like who?

I remember people trying to justify Green's decision, pleading patience and suggesting that he's still raw, but I don't remember anyone being down on Hutton's upside or even having seen enough of him to have an issue with his defensive play.

You can go back to the ahl vs development threads if you want to read some of the arguments.

Nobody was arguing against Hutton's upside, it's people arguments against his play to justify keeping negrin in the lineup over Hutton. Which is a unjustifiable mistake.

I mean on what basis are you claiming that it's the same people critical of Subban's chances now? That felt like an unnecessarily dismissive accusation out of left field to me.

That's a very different comparable to people seeing Subban's performance in the AHL and being pessimistic about his NHL upside. From what I remember, the Hutton situation was one where Green was playing less talented veterans over him in the playoffs on the grounds that he's too raw and unpolished to trust and give time to adjust in make or break playoff games. It was an immediate short-term concern, not long term concern, which regardless of whether or not it was a good decision, is completely different from this.

Nikita Tryamkin looks like a young Zdeno Chara
Troy Stecher looks like a young Bryan Rafalski
Erik Gudbranson looks like a young Jeff Beukeboom

Gubranson is junk. Would not crack the top 4 of any playoffs team

Stukel isn't having the year I expected.

Yeah, it's been a difficult start for him.

His skating ability is so impressive and he looks brilliant in 3-minute highlight packages on youtube (which is what stoked a lot of people on this pick) but his hockey sense and two-way play are both incredibly suspect.

Seems pretty obvious at this point he'll be going back to the WHL for his overage season next year. Hopefully he can turn things around, as he's been a streaky player in the past.

You haven't followed hockey or prospect development for very long, have you?

Brock Boeser looks like <insertHHOFplayername>
Will Lockwood looks like <insertHHOFplayername>
Alexandre Grenier looks like <insertHHOFplayername>
Cole Cassels looks like <insertHHOFplayername>
Ronalds Kenins looks like <insertHHOFplayername>

Now could 5 different people quote me (and maybe add some player names for funzies) and then we can all have a chuckle at my expense?

That would be great.

We'll never get scored on again!

I wouldn't go that far but we'll definitely have a huge advantage over teams like Edmonton in defensive playoff style games, for sure.

Would you consider two decades a long time? On second thought you're right Hutton looks more like a young Jake Gardiner.

I know the post is a little tongue in cheek, but you have to admit, Canucks have a pretty impressive stable of young d-men under the age of 25...might be one of the best in the league...and with the exception of Tanev who's older (26) and Juloevi in Junior, the other guys are in the lineup and playing every night....up front, it's still Death Valley, but at least the blueline is a start.

I'd say we have an ok stable of young dmen. I think that historically we've had absolutely **** all in terms of quality and quantity of young dmen/d-prospects that yeah, it looks amazing, but mainly because this is such a rare occurrence where we're not going "well....we have Yann Sauve....and uhhh....crap"

Now just imagine how much further ahead we'd be if we also had Forsling.

Forsling is nothing special, I think he tops out at a replacement level defenceman. It was a bad trade but I never saw him as a staple in Canucks defence.

Replacement level defenceman still has value to us. Especially when he costs like 700k.
