Can't we just park him in front of the net and get him to throw his big body around, muscle out a few garbage goals?

So if we had 12 forwards out, we should expect a $2.5-5 million player who sucks to be claimed off waivers.

At no time is it a good idea to pick up a $1.5 million player who sucks. AT. NO. TIME.

Zero goals, one assist in 22 games. 11 healthy scratches in the last 15 games.

Tonight, third line.

Are you kidding me this joke is Dan Bylsma Viagra, dunno why anyone is shocked by this.

My god I hate the disco dip-**** and this organizations forward depth.

I really wish we would have traded Letang, or we do finally move him for a kings ransom and FINALLY get some more forward solutions long term on this roster.

Pyatt's 1.5m cap hit is irrelevant. He has an expiring contract and it won't prevent us from doing anything at the deadline. We've buried a bigger contract (Miro Satan) in the AHL for cap space at the deadline when we needed to for cap reasons. It can be done again.

He looks like what I expected. It was refreshing to see a big body 3rd or 4th liner that could actually hang onto the puck for a while along the boards etc. He can't do much with it but the size and puck possession is something that's been missing from our bottom 6.

There were about 4 or 5 opportunities where he had a great change to lay a huge body check on a player and separate the puck carrier from the puck and he either flew by him with a weak stick check or all together held up.

Soooo frustrating to see a big guy like that in that role, not use his size and play the body in that role.

Then again I'm not shocked and had the bar set so low in his expectations.

He just came from the Rangers by way of waivers, lets see what he'll do against a team that he wasn't just apart of.

He isn't that much of a hitter in the first place.

Yeah and if THAT didn't get him jamming and lighting up players on a team that tossed him away, I have very little hope he will come around on teams that didn't screw him out and make him look like trash like the rags did by waiving him.

If THAT didn't light a fir under his ass... Nothing will.

Pyatt had a decent debut. Still think anyone critizising this pick up is kinda nuts :).

My only concern was whether there was a downside to not being able to bury the whole contract in the minors. Not a ton of money at risk, but when you've got big ticket areas to address like the Pens, I'd like to think that making every penny count is a higher priority than having Pyatt for maybe a month or so on the big club.

That's dependent on them addressing said areas. It's probably a non-issue... I'm mixed on my feelings about that.

I think so too, which is why I concluded that I trust Botterill's expertise and figure that they game planned the what if's in terms of trade targets if they had to bury Pyatt in the minors.

Man Pyatt looked phenomenal. He put on a clinic with his board play.

Exactly.
I was tired of seeing Conner/Kobasew etc. getting knocked off the puck or scrambling to even get to it.
If the playoffs started today, Pyatt makes this team tougher to play against.

The hope here is that he gets inspired and finds his game again. He'll get every oppurtunity to do just that.

No really he doesn't. Once the playoff start the hitting and checking pickup ten fold, he will easily be intimidated and smashed off the puck.

If this guy is a regular roster player come playoff time this team is in even deeper trouble than we all thought.

Meh.
I see it differently.
I'd rather have Pyatt out there than a Conner or Kobasew for a playoff run.
Still early though. I'll wait and see what he can do.

Pyatt actually plays pretty well in the playoffs. Even some of his tougher critics among fan bases he's played for in the past give him credit for playing well in the postseason.

He isn't a physical guy. I don't take huge issue with that. I think we have enough guys that hit. We could use a big guy that can possess that puck some and score some big goals in the postseason etc.

I'm not just talking about his ability to deliver hits, I am talking about his ability to take hits.

Dude is softer than charmin and will be a turn over / give away machine why it comes playoff time and teams are playing smash mouth hard hitting hockey and you have this giant soff baby who avoids contact like the plague.

Not to mention he is a rather slow skater who is pretty mehhh in his skating ability as well.

If he is a regular roster player come play off time, lord help us all.

Well hopefully he gets his **** together quickly. He was a -1 tonight, so you can't knock him for being inconsistent. He's consistently bad.

He wont be, he's only here to be a body. Once we get healthy (if we do) he's gone. Such a shame, a guy that is 6'4 230 really should be a monster physically. When you have size in the NHL you really need to use it as much as you can, IMO that's pretty logical but he's not into that type of hockey. I'm fine with the claim, we need more bodies as we keep getting hurt. Once we get healthy we can waive every junk player except Glass and Adams because that will never happen. If Pyatt gets 10 or less minutes a game then i'm fine with him on the roster while we wait for our guys to come back.
