when thing about not living in the bubble of Edmonton or Canada---I get to see a lot games where Edmonton is not playing--the reffing sucks across the board and every team fan base can and has started this same thread. I get it--many want the oilers to have 10 pp a game so they can get goals.--what about 5 on 5? For 2 seasons we relied on the PP to win games and when the playoffs started and playoff reffing kicked in? Why are the oilers so bad at scoring goals at even strength? That should be the topic.
Many of us said--the oilers will only go as far as the goalies take them--we knew that. The moment Holland trade the pick to used to Wallstedt--he was on my shit list--Wallsted will be a bonified number 1 goalie at some point in time. People say "but the guy we drafted will be in the nhl faster" but will he be better long term? The draft is not about this year or next--it is about 4 years down the line and in 4 years time I predict Wallstadt will be in the nhl serving as back up and putting up great numbers. I have openly admitted I have a problem with how the Q develops their players and when Xavier comes out of JR he will be a raw talent--that are the type of guys you get 22nd over all--usually and it all comes down to how a team develops that player and that is where the problem starts with the oilers--we need to get better at developing the guys we draft who are not taken in the top 10.
The world is not against the Oilers--the oilers are their own worst enemy.
There is one thing that I always think about when we get a fire person X from the organization
The 2012 NHL entry draft--the night before the draft, around the Oilers and Baghdad Bob thought the oilers were taking Ryan Murray. Baghdad Bob was talking him up the night before--Over night something happened--We took Yakupov. No one knows just what happened but someone up high made the decision to draft Yakupov--2012 was a bad draft--in almost every redraft I have seen
Morgan Rielly goes first now and only Galchenyak who went 3rd overall still gets taken in the top 10.
Who made the decision to take Yak over Murray? Most say it was Katz and if he did how many other bad decisions has he been involved in?
AS for Bob Nickelsson. Oilers are now worth a lot of money--it is not just about having McDavid on the ice. Nickelsson is a business guy and he knows how to make money for a teams. IN the 16 years he was in charge of Hockey Canada, he redid the business side of things and redid a lot of other things that other countries copied.
We have a fire Nickelson thread--when do we get the thread to get Katz to sell the team? We are running out of people we want to fire
