Well boys, the playoffs are upon us and our Georgia peach's first time at the rodeo went both very well, and terribly. Unfortunately, I lost my f***ing post so I have to retype everything. So here we go
In his first playoff outing, game 2 of the NLDS against the Reds in Philly, the same Reds who tagged him for 9 ER in his worst MLB start, Tainter rose to the occasion with gusto, pitching 7 innings of shutout ball while striking out 6 and allowing only 3 hits. His first 5.1 innings were perfect. The Phillies' offense couldn't come through for him however, exiting with during a scoreless tie and earning a ND, adding a single in for good measure at the plate. However, the Phils ended up pulling through late, taking a 2-0 series lead. The squad completed the sweep, and faced the formidable Dodgers in the NLCS.
Tainter threw the 3rd game of the NLCS in front of the home crowd with the Phillies down 2-0 in the series, desperate for a win. The 20 year old delivered. Staked to a 1-0 lead after the first, it was all he needed, firing a legendary complete game shutout, allowing 6 hits and striking out 7. The Phils rode the momentum and tied the series, though it ended up going 7 games. Heading back to LA with a trip to the World Series on the line, Jainter went toe to toe with Kershaw in a pitcher's duel. With the game scoreless in the 6th, Tainter's 2 out bleeder allowed Jean Segura the opportunity to take Kersh deep! Tainter took the 2-0 lead and pitched into the 8th, tossing a total of 7.1 strong behind 5 hits and 8 strikeouts, allowing only 1 run, an inherited runner in the 8th. The Phils shut the door in the 9th, and they're on their way to the World Series against the Yankees!!
Sorry for the blur. It was mid frame apparently and I had one shot here.
The World Series didn't start out as planned. Once again down 2-0, the Phillies turned to their young superstar, who served up a career best 10 Ks, sweet and syrupy, in his first ever WS appearance over 8 IP, allowing only 3 hits and no runs. With the Phils back in it, they were ready to force a game 7, where Tainter would have pitched at home, but they blew a save in the 9th and then lost it in the 14th That shit f***ing sucked.
2-0 with a ND in the playoffs allowing one singular run across the plate, we're looking at the birth of a legend. In the regular season, Tainter finished with a 14-3 record and pitched to a 2.53 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP over 224.1 innings, allowing only 21 walks and striking out 110. Work. Horse.
The campaign earned his first big money extension with the Phillies, who offered him 7.5mil per year over 5 years. Humbly, Tainter declined and countered with 3 yrs x 7 mil, which the Phillies agreed. The entire squad is still together this season, and hopefully the boys can run it back in 2021
