Wow.

What a f***ing outing against the Reds for the Country Breakfast. Tainter, entering in the 4th with a man on 2nd and 2 down, retires his first batter on 3 straight strikes, preventing the go ahead run from scoring. 6.1 innings later (SIX POINT ONE), Tainter was relieved after the 11th inning. His offense couldn't muster 1 run up for him, until the next pitcher promptly served up 2 home runs and a 5 spot in the top of the 12th inning. 6.1 innings of 3 hit ball, allowing 0 runs, 0 walks, and striking out 5. One of the most incredible relief performances in recent memory. Tainter only threw 57 pitches.

A few nights later, again with his team down big early, Tainter threw 2.2 innings, walking 1 and allowing 2 hits but no runs. In an otherwise ho hum performance, something grand happened....

....though it resulted in an F7. 0/1 in his young career. Nonetheless his gutsy performance inspired his Angels to overcome an early 6-0 deficit in an exciting game, crossing the plate for the 6th and 7th time in the top of the 9th before shutting the door in St. Louis.

A quick 1.1 inning outing, earning the hold, while allowing 1H and striking out 2 rounds out tonight's slate of games for Tainter. You know what to do tomorrow night

A bit of a rocky start in his first appearance in a little over a year, Tainter entered the game in the 4th and surrendered a leadoff hit with 2 strikes (if you recall, finishing hitters has always been his weakness) before a wild pitch allowed him to score from 3rd with 2 down. On the bright side, he did K that batter on the next pitch with his a knuckle curve. Settling in, the 5th inning provided little resistance before being pulled. All in all, over 2 innings TJ pitched to 2 hits and 1 ER, 0 K, 0 BB

His next outing saw Tainter enter the game in a jam with men on 1st and 2nd with 1 out, but he wriggled out with a grounder and a fly out. Unfortunately, he pitched himself into trouble after striking the first batter out in the following inning, needing an inning ending double play to escape from a 1st and 3rd situation. A 1-2-3 eighth concluded his outing: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 K, earning the win.

The following appearance saw a hard luck loss despite an impressive performance. Pitching over 4 innings into the 8th, Tainter allowee 4 H, 1 ER, and 1BB while striking out 3.

Continuing this hot streak, Tainter entered with his team down 4, but shut out the Sox over 2.1 hitless innings. Pulled after the 7th, Tainter allowed his team time to take and hold the lead while punching out 3 and walking none. The exciting come from behind win in the battle of the 2 best AL teams improved Tainter's record to 9-2.

In his next outing Tainter threw 3 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 BB, while striking out 3. He earned a no decision, but his team earned the win. Quickly humbled, Tainter gave up the game winning 2 run homer with 1 out in the 9th in his next outing. He earned the loss despite the otherwise solid outing, allowing the lone tater over 3.2 innings, allowing 2 other hits, and striking out 6.

Determined to bounce back the Country Breakfast did just that, throwing 4 perfect innings before allowing a walk and a hit in a rockier 5th inning of relief. He allowed 1 hit overall during the scoreless outing, struck out 3, and walked 1 en route to his 10th win of the season. He followed up his best outing of the season with 2.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing 2 hits and another win.

Now late August and his Angels sitting safely in a wild card position, Tainter ballooned his ERA to 1.78 after allowing 4 earned, including a 3 run HR, in the 9th inning after he entered an already lost game. Bouncing back with 3 K over 3.1 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits, his performance after that in a more conventional relief role was good, but not excellent as we're used to seeing. Over his next 4.2 innings spread over 5 starts, Jainter scattered 3 hits and walked 2, while surrendering 2 earned runs and collecting a win. His highest leverage outing saw him bail the Angels out of a bases loaded 1 out jam with a double play. In his final outing of the night, he was thrust back into his more typical long relief ace role, throwing 3 innings, allowing 1 walk, 1 earned run, and striking out 1, earning the win.

As we wind down the season and prepare for the playoffs tomorrow, Tainter is turning in a uniquely exceptional bullpen performance, boasting a 12-3 record and striking out 72 over 112.1 innings, to the tune of a 1.76 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, both tops in the Majors. A mid to late game ace capable of throwing 2-5 innings, Tainter is truly weaponizing the Angels' bullpen. Can LA ride Tainter and Trout's .376/.468/.686 season, deep into the playoffs? Tune in tomorrow

Oh god....opening the night with 0.1 IP, 2 HR, 4 ER. But the rook came through in his next appearance, tossing a clean inning with a K. Then....things started to get interesting. With the A's rattling off 12 in a row, suddenly the Angels found themselves out of the playoffs. In the season's final game vs the A's, the Angels needed a win to force a one game playoff. Tainter entered by far his biggest game in the 5th inning of a tie game, tossing 2 scoreless and striking out 2. His boys prevailed in the end, and won the one game playoff! After disposing of the Yankees in the wild card game, Tainter and the squad took the AL best Red Sox to a winner take all 5th game. In his first playoff appearance, Tainter threw 3 middle relief innings, surrendering only 1 hit and striking out 3. Unfortunately, the Angels couldn't pull through. The 19 year old closed the book on his first season in the Majors with a 12-4 record, 1.97 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 77:31 K:BB ratio over 119 innings. He started 5 games and converted 4 quality starts.

Going into the next season penciled in as the 4th starter, Tainter earned his first 7 digit contract.

And amazingly...in an otherwise average spring training, during an otherwise innocuous 1 inning appearance, Tainter sent a ball over the right center field fence for a solo home run. Truly remarkable!!

Striking out the first batter of his 2021 campaign on 3 pitches, the remainder of the inning brought the only runs allowed in this 6 inning outting in the form of a 3 run HR. Tainter earned a no decision and struck out 4 while walking 1. Embarking on a hot streak spanning 30 innings, TJ has allowed 10 earned runs off 27 hits while walking 6 this season, highlighted by a 5.1 inning 4 H, 7 K performance.

In the off week's first look at Tainter, who now firmly holds the #3 starter spot on a 30-13 Angels team, we saw him face a Astros lineup full of exceptional right handed hitters. As a lefty, you'd imagine this would be an issue for TJ. You'd imagine. In reality, Tainter spun 7 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits and exiting with a 1-0 lead. In typical LAA fashion, they blew the save, taking a W from us in the process. This team can't beat the f***ing Astros.

In his next turn, Tainter pitched around a 1st inning solo HR en route to another 7 strong innings, allowing 2 ER on 8 hits and striking out 5. Exiting with his team down 2-1 and in line for the loss, a walk off 2 run HR saved Jainter from his first loss of the season. His fortunes evened out over the last 2 games- baseball has a way of doing that.

Tainter cooked up a good ol Country Breakfast en route to his 5th win, this one on the road against the f***ing Astros. With his offense jumping out for 2 runs in the top of the first, strikes were served sweet and sizzlin, with 5 batters striking out over 8 innings. 4 hits (including a solo HR) were scattered throughout, with no one walked. The outing shrunk Tainter's ERA to a Major League leading 2.13 over 72 innings, and with June approaching, the young hurler has secured the second most All Star fan votes for the AL's starting pitcher. Can he continue his dominance? We'll find out tomorrow

Another hard luck no-decision for Tainter to start it off. Humming into the 8th inning, allowing only a pair of Elvis Andrus singles, Tainter gave up 2 straight hits before being pulled with the Angels up 1-0 in a scoreless game. Unfortunately, an inherited runner scored, but no more. Jainter's line closed at 7 IP, scattering 5H, allowing 1 ER, walking none, and striking out 6. The Angels picked their young gun up immediately in the bottom of the stanza with a 3 spot and never looked back. This is the second start in a row Tainter has served an inning eating stop gap.

His next outing, Tainter kept the division leading Mariners in check over another 7 strong. Despite back to back solo HR in the 6th inning, TJ surrendered only 4 hits while uncharacteristically walking 2. He gave up 3 ER in total and struck out 2 en route to a- you guessed it- no decision. He retired the 7th inning in order with his team up 3, only for the to subsequently blow the lead in the 8th and lose in the 13th. Nice. Worth noting this was the first start in Tainter's professional career where he threw triple digit pitches- the young hurler tossed exactly 100 pitches.

How will we do tomorrow? Tune in to find out

Pitching into the 9th inning and throwing a shutout, Tainter was staring down the barrel of his first career CGSO. Then, Joey f***ing Gallo hit a leadoff home run on a low and outside (out of the zone) knuckle curve and pulled it right inside the pole. Such f***ing bullshit, kind of pissed. Impossible. Naturally, TJ got the hook right after that, closing his 8.0 IP, 7H, 5K, 1ER line for the night. He exited with a 7-1 lead, and the Angels easily held it down for Jainter's 6th win of the season.

Pitching into the 8th for what I believe is the 5th start in a row or something, Tainter held the Astros to 6H and 1 ER over 7.2 IP. He struck out 4. Correa went 0-3 with 2K and 95 mph to the ear. Yet again, the Angels' offense leaves Jainter the no decision despite another phenomenal outing.

Speaking of phenomenal outings, how about 8.1 IP, 6H, 7K, 0ER, 0BB against the Rays? That marks win #7 on the season for the Country Breakfast, with the Georgia native boasting a 7-0 record to the tune of 1.88 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 110 innings, all second best in the Majors. He remains the Majors' only undefeated pitcher.

For good reason too, because the Angels are in a life and death 3 way battle for the AL West. Houston is leading at 48-29, with the Mariners 1.5 games back and LAA 2 games back. With the All Star game a little less than 3 weeks away, Tainter owns the most All Star votes for AL starting pitchers at 20 years old. Incredible.

Last night was huge for Tainter. In his first interleague plate appearance, our boy smacked a single up the middle for his first major league hit, which would have been an RBI if the dingus on second didn't get thrown out stealing 3rd for some reason. KEEP THE BALL!! His second time up resulted in a double down the line! This kid executes on both sides of the ball.

On the bump, Tainter pitched 6 innings and gave up only 4 hits and 2 earned, walking 1 and striking out 3. Relieved after only 80 pitches for a pinch hitter, the Angels converted on the opportunity and earned him is 8th win of the season. His next time out Jainter rode a similar 6 inning appearance to a no decision, giving up a lone 3 run homer over 6 innings while striking out 5 and only giving up 2 hits.

In what seemed destined to become TJ's first career CGSO, the country breakfast spun 8 innings of 2 hit shutout ball, striking out 5...then he was pulled for a pinch hitter in the 9th!!! We were pissed. The game ended up going 12 innings and the Angels lost, so perhaps his most dominant outing of his career resulted in a no decision. This was some Greg Maddux shit. It was nuts. What a way to close the first half of the season- in a few days he threw a perfect 5th for the AL All Stars, his first of many all star appearances for the 20 year old southern boy.

Tainter kicked off his second half with a- for his standards- pedestrian outing. Giving up 3 earned over only 5.1 innings but striking out 5, Tainter was in line for the loss. However, the Angels dramatically bailed him out by winning the game late, and our hero remains undefeated. Finally, another 8 inning performance closed out the night, where Tainter scattered 4 hits and 3 walks while giving up 0 runs en route to his 9th win. Approaching the dog days of summer, the Angels sit in 3rd place, 5 games out of first. More to come....

What a night for Tainter last night. It all started with this...
dn7Wzdt.jpg

So a shellshocked Tainter packed his bags for the confines of Philadelphia. He was traded for Odubel Hererra, a 21 yr old 71 ovr A potential prospect, and a 23 yr old 77 ovr B potential MLB player. A good midseason haul for the Angels who looked to be in a salary crunch. Tainter joins a Phillies squad comfortable in a playoff spot as one of the better teams in the NL.

Can you say Cliff Lee? In his first start as a Phillie, Tainter spun his best professional start against the Marlins: a masterful complete game shutout, his first career complete game, allowing only 7 hits while striking out 8 and walking none. PHILADELPHIA, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!! Jainter, in his next outing, was fairly pedestrian, being charged with 5 runs (2 inherited scored) over only 5.1 innings, allowing another 7 his while striking out 3.

Tainter's complete game shutout proved to only last a few weeks as his best career start, as his 3rd start as a Phillie was just awe inspiring. Needing only 76 pitches, the Giants were NO HIT over 7.2 innings, before Matt Vasgersian JINXED THE f*** OUT OF US BY SAYING HE IS ONLY 5 OUTS AWAY FROM A NO HITTER AND THEN BRANDON CRAWFORD f***ING INSIDE OUTS A f***ING FILET O FISH INTO THE f***ING RIGHT FIELD NO MAN'S LAND TRIANGLE ON A LOW AND IN FASTBALL ARE YOU KIDDING ME. The second baserunner to reach (the first on a Franco throwing error in the 2nd), it was all the Giants could offer. All in all, Tainter threw his second complete game shutout in his last 3 starts, allowing 1 hit and striking out 7 with zero walks, his 11th win of the season.

Continuing the roller coaster of a summer following the trade, Tainter threw another pedestrian (by his standards) outing next try, giving up 4 over 6.1 innings en route to his first loss of the season. 2 more losses followed, the first was a hard luck loss where he threw 7 strong and gave up only 2. The next was his worst outing as a professional: Tainter couldn't make it to the 4th before giving up 9 earned. It was ridiculous, these dudes were just mashing pitches outside the damn zone, even. Scripted. I swear.

How would the 20 year old handle such a disastrous outing, capping off a 3 game losing streak? By winning his next game of course, as any great pitcher would, giving up 3 ER over 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and striking out 5. His next 2 starts, both similar no decisions, each saw 4 runs cross the plate over 5 and 5.1 innings respectively, giving up 8 and 10 hits in the process.

Tainter has 1 more start before the playoffs. Will he settle in? Will this roller coaster of play and emotions continue? Tune in tonight...
