I'm a Wings fan and I even say Roy is the greatest ever. I would love to see how Sawchuk would've done in modern days with all of the gear or have Roy go back in time and wear the thin pads and no mask. I'll take Sawchuk as far as guts and toughness but if there was one game I had to win, I'd take St. Patrick.

Remember, Sawchuk played in the era when it took only 8 wins to win the cup. Sawchuk went on an 8-0 run with 4 shutouts to win a title with Detroit. No player will ever go 16-0 and have shutouts in atleast half of those wins.

Who's the best Roy or Sawchuk, I think the pundits will be arguing that one
for a long time. One thing is for sure , you can't measure it just on statistics
especially when comparing different eras.In comparing Roy to the players of
his era there is one argument that stands out:He's the only player to win 3
Conn Smythe Trophies(skaters included).Sawchuk played when they didn't have
the Conn Smythe but surely he would have won it if it was there to win. What
made this a great trade for me was that Henri Richard was still on the table for
the 75th overall pick I received. This guy was one of the greatest defensive
forwards of all time as well as one of the greatest leaders. He has more Stanley
Cup's then any other player and he captained several of them.

Yeah and you only had to get by the Montreal Canadiens and their 10 Hall
of Famers.

SORRY ! I was wrong ! 12 hall of famers(including the coach),13 if you count
Franke Selke the President.Sawchuk and the Red Wings beat the greatest and
deepest team in the history of pro sport 3 times in the Stanley Cup Final. If it
wasn't for Sawchuk that Canadiens team probably would have won 9 straight.
So yeah that was nothing.

Sorry for taking this long, the boards were down when I was going to pick.

But anyways, the New Jersey Devils are pleased to welcome a 3-time Stanley Cup champion, defenseman King Clancy.
