Really an awful week for the organization, on and off the ice.

It’s been a year since Benning and Green left, and it feels no different even if the offseason wasn’t as horrifyingly bad as it usually is.

Vibes are terrible. Results are better, but barely (10-15 vs 8-17)

Indeed, hard to overstate how much of a disaster it's been, with Demko struggling and then going on IR, young players like Rathbone, Podkolzin not taking a step forward, dysfunction in the front office/coaching and even their first #1 pick Lekerrimaki is having a woeful season in Sweden. So very little to be optimistic about. In many ways it feels more bleak than it did even during the Benning era, since we at least could assume that Benning would eventually get fired and had that to look forward to. Now it feels completely hopeless.

The time to start the fire sale is long overdue now.

How did we go from being one of the best run organizations in the league, with guys taking pay cuts to win, to suffering a decade worth of ineptitude and chaos? Both regimes under the same ownership group?

I fully blame FA for his obsession over chasing the Bruins (even though their cup win over us was a complete fluke based on their prior and post cup playoff runs), but the management of this franchise since that obsession ended is just heart breaking. The Canucks deserve better than what we’ve seen.

When you are on the cusp of being a SC contender, players will take pay cuts to stay...and free agents will find your team to be a destination.

When you are on the down cycle, and your core ages out..players head for the exits (Kesler,Luongo), and you dont have much of a leg to stand on in the free agent market.

I could forgive all of that if we'd traded Miller. Now we've doubled down again on the Horvat/Miller window instead of building around Pettersson and Hughes despite still being so far away from contending.

Because before Benning Aquilini was willing to fire a guy at the first sign of sub-invincibility. After that apparently he thought it was best to dig to the core of the earth before determining that no oil was about to gush out.

If he'd at least lived by his own precedent, Benning would have been gone in 2016 and we could have moved on relatively quickly.

Everybody, especially Horvat should go out the door. Petey seems to be one of the few players who really cares about winning but I doubt he will want to resign here. The Canucks as an organization seem obsessed with "virtue signalling" moves rather than putting a hard nosed, talented product on the ice. They have endless celebrations of past players who never won a damn thing in this town and it dates back to day one of the franchise.

That would take them admitting they read the team completely wrong.

Had they not signed Miller I could see this happening. But they now have ownership of the current state of the team and doing a 180 only few months after the Miller extension might be too big a pill to swallow.

Despite all the doom and gloom about our current state... please still take a moment to remember the sacrifice that... well, we made.

Amongst your many excellent posts and creations, this ranks as one of the most satisfying to read. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

Management absolutely does think it is Boudreau's fault, he's on the chopping block and if we lose 2 of these next 3 games, I'd be shocked if Bruce was still the head coach on the morning of the 8th of December.

Excuse after excuse, If ya can't do the job,get the hell out of town.

It's like surviving Nazi Germany only to find yourself behind the iron curtain

Is it?

Chicken and the egg. The team was a contender because of the cuts as much as people took cuts because they were a contender.

When you have a GM that starts by making a culture of taking these cuts. He sat down the negotiation knowing a player wanted to stay and parlayed that into a discount. In several documented circumstances, Benning didn’t even make an offer in similar situations.

Making a mistake on a big point producer line Miller can be forgiven and Miller is still likely tradable for assets. The Boeser signing is completely unforgivable. Someone should be fired for that signing. Doubt anyone claims him on waivers at this point.

It’s pretty clear we have two subsets of fans- the Aquilini’s- those that can’t stomach what it’s going to take to get rid of the country club and start fresh

And the coldhearts- those that think if you got to bench a guy on cancer night to break this up you gots to do it. Did you think it was going to be easy to do?

We need to organize a grassroot program to help Benning get hired again.

Technically very tradeable if we absorb 1.5M. Not a crippling amount of cap and 6.5M per year for Miller is not bad if the other team have leaders that can slap Miller into place.
First liners are making $8m per year, Miller is clearly a first liner, that contract isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be.
