Lol at people trashing Toews. He has easily been the Hawks best player this year, and is looking like his old self. He is the only one that seemingly cares out of the core group.

Kane on the other hand....

The Pens are not in the same boat. If you actually think the Pens won't make the playoffs, you're way off. 2 Crosby and Malkin are leagues above Toews and Kane and to boast they have Kessel. Crosby And Malkin even after the 09 Cup they were no nowhere near missing the playoffs. The year before the 09 cup they were in the finals. The pens two top players were and are higher end players than the Toews and Kane by a long shot

Hawks were going to conference finals and winning cups while Pittsburgh was getting throttled in the first round on a yearly basis...lets chill on the “leagues” better...

Might as well just have an auto-thread after every Blackhawks loss so everyone can be reminded of Seabrooks cap hit and term. Mix in a little Toews is a 2C. And just to spice things up throw in a Panarin reference. Bonus points if the word albatross is seen in the first 5 comments. This is like the 3rd or 4th thread this week.

Guess all the carrying of Hawks done by Kane as Toews was MIA for years is catching up to him

At end of day the Hawks are a bleak and dire mess at this point. The only real positive at this point is Dylan Strome

Joker was positive development for team until this idiot coach came in and has completely moved to ruin him and stunt all development

Like many have said, this isn't as much about their all-stars as it is more about the players around them and failure of the organization to build around them.

The past decade I look at the Hawks, Kings, Pens, and Caps as teams with top-end talent and sustained success. I hate giving the pens and caps credit, but it's not just ovechkin kuzy crosby and malkin. They've made some incredible moves and drafted some great players in addition to these guys.

Lmao you really think if the Hawks had to choose to ship one of the two players you think they would ship Kane over Toews? lmao

Listening to Hockey analyst scratching their heads trying to figure why the Hawks are not a playoff team. Hearing them saying they have Toews, Saad, Kane and Keith, at worse that should be enough to them in the playoffs. There's a lot of quality hockey left with those players and fact that Toews and Kane are 100 greatest players, they understand why they are so Bad.

My take is Toews although having an ok season, but he is not an elite top 1st line center. He needs to be paired with A BRAD Marchant level player along with a Pasternak. Frankly this is Toews real level in my point of view. Kane is really playing offense by himself and the defense for the Hawks need another season to level out with NHL experience.. I don't see the Hawks making the playoffs. Unless they maybe unload Toews and we all know that's not happening..

You don't watch many Hawks games do you? Toews has been their best player all season and has been having a great season. He is dragging around others. Dcat has doesn't anything since moved away from Toews. Saad is playing better now with Toews. Crawford , Seabrook and Keith have been the huge disappointments and Kane though still scoring has looked disinterested and lazy in a lot of games.

Shhhh your thinking out loud and it's not good.. the Pens have had/have more longevity when it comes to playoffs and let's get real here Back 2 back cups. And i guarantee they will in the playoffs and making deep runs for the next couple of years until Crosby and Malkin retire.. Major difference between Crosby & Malkin vs Toews & Kane. Hell at leas Kane is worth his contract.

Hawks went to 5 conference finals and won 3 cups in a ten year span with 10 consecutive years of playoff appearances. Get real with this longevity bullshit. Pittsburgh took a 6 year nap after their 2009 cup.

I don't think they would choose to ship either of them out. And if they did, yeah, they would probably ship Kane out.

They seem to be in a steep decline and headed towards a rebuild.

They've had their success - it couldn't have lasted forever.

Pack it up. There are better teams now.

They got bit by the cap. It's been predicted to happen eventually since their first cup win in 2010.

Pens went to 2 finals and won a cup vs the best hockey team on the planet. The Hawks were not in any conversation then. The Pens won two cups when the Hawks were no longer a factor in the SC runs. That is the difference. Pens will decline over time but no question the Hawks bet the farm on that 5 year run and are now paying dearly for that. Toews is a good player but he is not close to that player that can be compared to the best. Pens are not stuck with players contracts that are basically killers. Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang now healthy can play with anyone.

Oh i see, you for the Cup Final appearance in 2008. wait my bad.. Wait wait, where are the hawks the past years.. Wait let's make it 3 now.. They don't even get in the playoffs back to back year.. Hawks must be great at Golf.

Oh yes back to back cups.. Hmmm the Hawks after their cup in 2010 where sent out the first round in 11 and 12 back to back.. Easy son. The Hawks did fairly well but, they are not the Crosby and Malkin Level in Cap era..

Lets make it three what...they missed the playoffs last year for the first time in a decade because they lost their starting goaltender. Who gives a f*** about back to back. They both have three cups...

you are clueless try watching a few games

Maybe if they weren't paying a low end 1C 10.5 million, they could spend money elsewhere. Like defense.

Toews isn't the reason on the ice why they're bad. But he is the reason why they traded Panarin and don't have cap space for Defense.

Paying a 6 million player, 10.5 million is recipe for disaster.

Also, paying Seabrook 6 mil is horrendous.

And Maybe Toews was MIA for years after having to play a lot tougher minutes than Kane through the Stanley Cup years.

Nah Toews was always protected getting to play with Hossa and Sharp all the time... And even then there was only one season where Toews was clearly better than Kane 11-12

Yes, "protected" playing against the other teams best players every night, playing PK, and playing in his own end.

Anyways when they get Panarin back and upgrade their D a little bit I could see them being playoff team next year.

Hopefully Hughes as well to replace Toews

Toews for years was playing with a guy who may have been even better than him he was always given the best breaks

Toews used to be a very good player in his prime but the whole "tougher mins" thing doesn't fly considering even in Toews prime Kane was still the majority of the time better.
