Desharnais (5'6), Plekanec (5'11), Weaver (5'9), Gallagher (5'9)

We're still small. All but one of those has got to go (I'll let you guess which :) ), surprised Weaver was brought back. At least it's just one season.

And 3 of them on our top 6....one out and i'm good.
I guessed the smallest of them all would be my choice

Malhourta-a one eyed faceoff guy-there is a reason Vancouver released him a year ago-team doctors said it was dangerous. How are we better than last season.Tampa Bay has improved with signings,Im hoping Bergy has a big trade coming and that our young players take a step up.And though Im glad we got rid of venek-tell me who replaces his goals and pts-inginla would be it but family did not want to move to Montreal

I am very very pleased with this too. You just can't have that many smurfs running around. See LA KINGS.

As for losing Briere and Gionta, come on fellows who are already missing them, don't you think we need to get younger too? Both guys are over 35 and both are declining.

No, the Habs are absolutely doing the right things and are positioning themselves nicely for next year and many more after that.

Having said all that, I do think they are keeping options open to improve top 6 and they have plenty of time to plan that. Look, we got Vanek late in the game, we could always do that again next year.

Bravo to the Habs brain trust. Clap clap

Truth is, most players don't want to come to Montreal. Politics, language, and weather, all play a major factor. It's hard for us to attract big time UFA talent.

Subtractions
- Briere 5'7" 174lbs
- Gionta 5'6" 170lbs
- Bouillon 5'8" 194lbs (actually pretty jacked for his height, but still)

Additions
+ Malholtra 6'2" 220lbs
+ PA Parentau 6'1 209lbs
+ Jiri Sekac 6'2" 190lbs (still young, will fill out to 200lbs+ soon)

Gilbert and Gorges are a wash, same height and only about 8lbs different

Only 2 players under 5'10" left in Gallagher and Deharnais and I think we all know one of those players doesn't play small ;)

I don't think we are a giant team by any stretch, but I'm sure we are no longer the smallest team now, middle of the pack at least

:yo:

We also lost Murray 6'3 245 lbs and Parros 6'5 22lbs and we dont know if Bouillon is back...

Briere 5'9 174lbs
Gionta 5'7 176lbs
Gorges 6'1 201lbs
Murray 6'3 245lbs
Parros 6'5 222 lbs

vs

Gilbert 6'3 210 lbs
Parentau 6'0 209lbs
Malholtra 6'2" 220lbs
Sekac 6'2" 190lbs

we didn't get that much bigger imo

Considering the latter two weren't even in the starting lineup, we sure did.

You're better off counting regulars. Guys like Sekac may not stick and Murray and parros never did.

Gionta 5'6" 170lbs
Gorges 6'1 201lbs

Parentau 6'0 209lbs
Malholtra 6'2" 220lbs
Gilbert 6'3 210 lbs

Is real way of looking at it.

Parros played about 10 games and Murray played about 20. I don't consider we lost them since they hardly played. The guys we picked up are bigger than guys being replaced who PLAYED.

What's the point of being 6'1 when you're afraid of contact and don't play physical?

But I mean both Gio and Gorges were combatives but it mattered little in the big scheme of things. They helped others leadership-wise but they were replaceable. Gio was not a big scorer anymore and as a third liner we're probably better with younger, bigger and more combative like say Bournival. Gorges again was feisty but he was getting caught in the Habs zone all the time. He caused as many turnovers as he blocked shots, cancelling the whole thing out. At this point in time character for these guys became a luxury for the team.

And I don't even compare Gio, Gorges to PAP and Gilbert cause they bring a different need. Like having a right-hand D that can play on the PP.

And a 6'2" 210 lb. DMan will demolish a 5'8" 170 lb. forward on a hit and outmuscle them on the boards.

Bees dont scare me.;)

no doubt.......bees don't scare me either but 6'2" 210lbs of muscle crushing me against the boards does.........:p:

The Canadiens are taller, but Gionta and Gorges were much grittier and more courageous than Parenteau and Gilbert.

... and also older. Besides, Parenteau came in exchange for Briere. Of course the Habs also unloaded Murray, Bouillon, and Parros.

I'm just happy the Gainey/Gauthier era is over. When I look at our team now, and management, I cannot believe I had to endure a time where those losers almost ran this franchise to the ground. Its truly a miracle the Molson saw it fit to get rid of their a$$es.

Ok so Tampa got better by getting rid of Purcell and signing Boyle?

Only when DD is gone and replaced by Galchenyuk will this be correct.
