I’ve never gotten the sense that people thought Hammer was good because he blocked shots. People thought Sopel wasn’t garbage because he blocked shots. Pretty much everyone understood Hammer was good at the whole hockey thing.

Sopel is a big dude! He coaches at one of the local youth hockey clubs (Sabres for those in Chicagoland) and see him around all the time. Aucoin and Daze too.

Re: Hammer - I still contend that (particularly during his prime) he was one of the most underrated defensemen in the league.

VERY shy guy. He was a very young guy at the time so he seemed uncomfortable not to mention his English wasn't great.

He did play shinny with the kids so that was cool!

Vinny Hinostroza is around our rink all the time (long story). He's also shy, but a good dude and great with the kids.

It is always hard to remember these guys are closer to the kids age than the adults but they are making millions (just a general comment, not directed at you). So much pressure but playing hockey is almost their safe space.

Fans in Florida loving Q, Arizona fans seem to like Schmaltz, Fans in Buffalo loving Jokiharju. Hopefully Strome bounces back and Nylander and JC keep taking steps.
