How this squad loses to the lowly Canadiens.. like, if you pick the 5 best guys on the ice it’s all Sabres, right? And yet! And yet! Somehow.. holy shit.

Replace the coaching staff. Replace their valets, their cleaners, their contacts, their identities, I don’t give a f*** what you have to do- get ‘em gone.

Bettman and the refs can still suck an egg outta a exhaust pipe from Chernobyl as far as I’m concerned, but they can then pass it off to Sabres ownership, and that’d be fine by me.

Saberes power play is pretty much them passing it around until there are less then 10 seconds left on the PP, then panicking and not taking a great shot. I hate it.

Agreed, a couple of changes though.

Levi bailed us out in some moments. But he also got bailed out too. All in all good that they can play as a unit in the defensive zone.

PP deserves to be in the Ugly. They had a lot of chances with a man advantage. The PP to end the 3rd and and start OT was beyond bad. It was embarrassing.

This team is playing a lot better but it also lacks a spine/balls. This team never would have thrown down the way the Habs did in defense of Barron. Or proactively thrown down at the end of the 3rd like they did. They proved it when Skinner got worked on the ground. They stood around and watched. It was gross.

You left out the part where Owen Power loses possession/fails to keep it in the offensive zone on an easy play and we have to waste 20 seconds regrouping.

G:

- most exciting game of the season
- most physical game of the season
- a consistent, hard fought team effort that will produce a win most nights
- Levi made some key stops
- I know he's done, but Kyle was a beast at times; congrats on the 600th point
- Don actually called a timeout at a useful moment

B:

- have to take 2 points when significantly outplaying an inferior opponent
- couldn't finish against an AHL tweener goalie (who admittedly had a fine game)
- Robinson's hit in the numbers; yes, Barron was clueless, but it was a bad decision that cost the Sabres a win; and if you expect NHL officiating to be consistent (what about Evander Kane last night?!?!?!), I really don't know what to tell you

U:

- is this PP ever gonna pull its head out of its ass?
- Gallagher needs a tune-up
- are we ever going to see blue-and-gold jerseys filling the lower bowl against Leafs and Habs?

G: Both Sabres goals were the result of 2nd chances. Off of rebounds given up if I remember correctly.

Please learn something from this fact of life.

B: Sabres couldn't finish (way to make a4th string goalie look like a world beater guys!)
But the ref's also had a substantial effect on the outcome of this game.

U: Does Robinson's penalty get uploaded to the NHL for further review and punishment?

Asses filling seats is where the money is. Food, beverages, entertainment.... Doesn't matter which team they root for. :sarcasm:

If the Sabres really want to maximize earnings, sell Habs and Leaf's stuff on the concourse! :naughty:

Well....... Wait for it....

I seriously would walk him out of the building tonight.
I feel like Ellis should still be on staff helping run drills, helping players with their workouts, and acting as a cheerleader/hype man kind of guy. But they clearly need someone new behind the bench and running the PP. That's been obvious for a long time. I'm still mad we let Peca walk.

I suppose they could have a PP specialist coach who wouldn't even need to be behind the bench. Not sure if any team does that, but there's no reason why it couldn't work (better than the current sitch anyway).

Anyway - that was a highly entertaining game. Lots to comment on, but it's a shame they lost this one. They were the better team for most of the game.

I hate to get into discussions about penalties (because they are boring), but that Robinson hit was a 2 minute boarding call in my book.

Having Tage back and healthy makes a huge difference. If they can have Tage and Tuch healthy at the same time, I think things start to look a lot different. I'll be interested to see what Quinn can bring to the table also, but I'm not expecting much from him for a while - maybe most of the season

Here's some Moneypuck graphics for ya:

They have had some good games and lost in the last week. The issue is the turd game against the Wings. Without that one, we could think they are moving in the right direction, but that one? Eh... hard to give them the benefit of the doubt. They're almost there in terms of compete but it's taken them 30 games to get there.

All I can think about was when the Bengals were at their absolute nadir in the early 2000's there was a cartoon in the Cincinnati Enquirer with the caption "Local team gripped with optimism" and it was Dick Lebeau addressing the team saying "Now let's go out there and lose by less than we usually lose by!". Feels like a perfect description of this year's Sabres.

This is the type of game that I could enjoy a lot more for what it was (good goaltending, back and forth play, physical, fun) if we hadn't already dug ourselves such a hole for the playoffs already.

Also, the new guy screwed us big time.
Exactly.

We outplayed them and bullied them in the 3rd. The momentum was completely in Buffalo's favor at the end of the 3rd and going into OT. Shootouts are lame.

But, they did just enough dumb shit in their own zone to keep the Habs lingering around. The PP was also embarassing.

Had they not played like ass for so long this game wouldnt hurt at all, but they NEED points and let another one slip away. Morale victories still contribute to this team missing the playoffs. Theyve too deep of a hole.
