I went with Werenski, but it might depend on what I think I could get with Tampa's pick. I think an "ideal" scenario (if such a thing exists) for me would be to get Werenski and Bittner in the 1st round. But if it looks like Bittner won't be there for Tampa's pick I might go with Crouse instead of Werenski.

This is why I went provorov. After this dismal year we help now to get us back to at least the playoffs. I have never seen a team with 2 top 10 scorers and a top 2 goalie play so poorly and miss the playoffs. I want to sacrifice a little skill/potential with a guy that will be ready earlier as you discussed.

This is what I'm saying. Whoever we end up getting, they need to be on the fast track to be in line to be in the NHL within the next 2 years if not sooner.

I think it only between Werenski and Barzal. Rantanen seems iffy as a top 10 pick.

Claude Giroux, and trade them for the first pick overall, and take McDavid!
I know the Giroux fans will holler at me, but what are you winning with him?
McDavid is the perfect player to build a team around.
Didn't Buffalo beat the Flyers this season?
I know the Flyers may be better than Buffalo on paper, and even in the standings because the Flyers are the leading team for regulation ties, but those numbers are fake.
The Flyers current roster is horrid, and their style of play has very little focus.
I'd rather try to acquire McDavid, then promote the young defensemen who are currently in the minors, give the captain C to Simmonds, and continue to build for the future.

I only voted other because you need to add Zacha and Meier to the group as far as our 1st pick goes then it is BPA as far as our boy Ron wants. No matter what, we are going to walk away with some serious talent.

my exact thoughts...went werenski but it really depends on whether we felt we could snag bittner w/tampa's first. if so id be very happy.

so werenski/bittner.

I might be a loner here but i went with Connor for his sniping and dynamic offensive upside. Someone who has the ability to hopefully be a high goal scorer. I would have went with Provorov but I think we can grab a great Dman with our TB pick given the scouts usually do their work. With what we did with Sanheim in the teens I think we could do that again in the 20's.

You're not alone...I went Connor too. I made a list a month ago of my top 6 and Connor wasn't on it. After more research I want this kid at our pick! I feel this kid is a can't miss prospect. Although reading everyone's reasons for their guy is making my mouth water for this draft!!!

Barzal is from my hometown so I wouldn't mind seeing him go there but I would like Crouse Or Rantanen. We need a big body winger and I think Crouse could be a 4th line player on the team next year (like bo horvat on the canucks, highly skilled but plays an energy role in his rookie season.) Haven't done enough research on Rantanen but I hear only good things. Draft a D with our second 1st rounder in my opinion as they take longer to develop and we have 2 d prospects ready to make the jump next season or the year and Sanhiem could start with the club if he has a strong camp

I really like a lot of players in the top of this draft, and there are some that I think would be good fits for the team. However, we have to go BPA and I think that's gonna be Rantanen. Might take him til he's 24 or 25 to hit his potential but I think he's gonna be the Finnish Jagr. We just had the Finnish God of Defense, don't wanna miss out on the Finnish God of Offense.

Rantanen
Crouse
Connor
Meier
Barzal

Could someone describe the ceiling/floor for Werenski and Provorov ?

Provorov: Smart, smooth skating breakout machine that controls the pace of the game. He reminds me of Mark Giordano and I don't think it is unreasonable to think he could get to that level. He also reminds me of a more offensive version of Suter but, a step down defensively. My prediction is that he is a 40 point, steady #2/3 defensmen in the role of a Sekera but, definitely has #1 potential.

Werenski: I can't think of a comparable for him but I see him in the mold of a Roman Josi, Cam Fowler or Oliver Ekman-Larsson. I see him as a 50 point offensive defenseman who quarterbacks a power play and can shut down opponents if need be. He is not very physical and his defense needs work but, the positive is that he understands what to do defensively but needs more experience for his timing, angling, and positioning. You can see he grasps the concepts just needs to be more consistent. His foot speed also needs to improve but other than that he is a very good skater with top notch IQ. I think he becomes a #1 defenseman but, more of like a top 15 defenseman in the league like McDonaugh or Pietrangalo instead of a top 8 guy.

This is just from my viewings and my opinion. IMO werenski has a higher upside (by a smidge) but, provorov is more nhl ready and more likely to reach his potential. I prefer Provorov because I really think he has all the tools and the toolbox to succeed in the NHL.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about Brock Boeser? Seems to be rising (?) and is very high on Craig Buttons list. I have not watched a single game of his this year.

Why? Do you honestly believe an 18 year old defenseman is going to put this team over the hump?

Honestly I do. We are a good team with a lot of good parts. Almost all of our bad parts are on D. A youthful high end D will have a great effect on the team. That may be from this draft or the prior ones but I think it will be significant.

I don't see it, but you are more optimistic than I am.

Crouse. The big banger with the excellent shot and good skating playing with Jake and G. Werenski is #2,then I am not sure. I have Provorov, Barzel and Connor all very close now. We need a #2 center who can score, so Barzel is tempting (but he is not a shooter) as he is really skilled. Connor can do it all, but is also a shooter and can play center, so maybe he is a better fit. Provorov is an excellent DMan. I can relate him to Kimmo (probably a faster and a little bigger Kimmo), and who wouldn't like another of those.

Rantanen or one of the D-men. I think taking a forward with our first pick is a better idea though, so I voted Rantanen. I really like what I've seen from my limited viewings of him.

Better change that to 9th or 10th....

Not really...

10th the Flyers have to get points in both of the last two games... almost certainly going 2-0-0. (though 1-0-1 could suffice in very, very limited circumstances.)

9th the Flyers have to go 2-0-0 to have more than a 50% chance. 1-0-1 and it is a ~25% chance. 1-1-0 and 8th or 7th are virtually guaranteed.

Actually if the Flyers go 1-1-0 the odds of getting 7th or 8th are almost identical at ~45% each.

Go 0-2-0 or 0-1-1 and 7th is very, very likely.

Werenski for me. Reason being he has a very high ceiling and could potentially play RD.

When your defense is set for years to come, it makes focusing on forwards much easier as well, and the Flyers seem to find gems at forward no matter where they pick.

Say next deadline, we trade Streit for a late 1st. Then we would have two 1st round picks in 16' to bolster the forward core.

Defenseman always are at a premium over forwards, if we have to un-load some of them to make room, we should be able to net a good return.

Keep in mind our depth scoring may not be as bad as it seems, won't be able to fully tell until we have defenseman capable of putting the puck on their sticks. I expect Couts, Schenn, & Laughton to show much more next year.

Good reasoning, if this happened i wouldn't mind it in the least bit. But its up in the air on who does or doesn't get traded from this summer into the next deadline.
