If The Flyers Draft 7th or 8th Who Do You Want:

This assumes Hanifin, Strome and Marner are gone.

EDIT: I voted Werenski, but it is very close between him and Provorov. Provorov will play a lot sooner than Werenski as well.

Barzal. I think he is talked alot more if he doesnt get hurt and sits for 28 games.

I think he can be a ppg+ player. Mark Seidel (chief scout from Central Scouting) stated a few days ago that if this was another draft, based off of Barzal's skill, he is talked about as the #1 pick.

I will take that potenial.

#2 for me would be Werenski.

I also went Werenski. But it's highly unlikely that the Devils and/or Carolina don't take wingers with their picks. So at least 1 of the big centres will fall to 6 and thus could fall to 7 or 8.

If Connor is still on board at 7 you take him unless Marner falls. Then they should target a RD with Tampa's pick.

If not you take Werenski and grab an LW with Tampas pick

I agree with the build up the middle philosophy that I think Hextall has. So that narrows it down for me to Werenski, Provorov and Barzal. While a bonified #2 center would be nice to have in a few years, I trust that the Flyers scouting department could find that later in the 1st either this year or next year. I also think a #2 center could be acquired slightly easier than a top 4 possibly top 2 dman. I also feel that there is a better chance that Couturier becomes a number 2 center with Laughton as number 3 than all 4 of the Flyers big D prospects becoming bonified top 4 NHL dmen. With all of that I would choose Werenski. I like his size and overall game better than Provorov even though he might take a little longer to develop.

If Marner is gone (and he really should be) I think they should take a D.

I just feel Werenski and Provorov are a cut above the forward prospects.

I lean slightly towards Werenski at first thought... higher ceiling, has played RD for some time and been effective.

But Provorov is likely ready possibly 1-2 years before Werenski... which even if he ends up not as good, if he is a solid 2nd pairing guy and one of Morin or Sanheim a legit first pair player it makes us ready to compete a year or two earlier... and gives us a longer window with G & V & Wayne Train.

It's difficult... I'd be happy with either of those two. They are both great prospects.

Crouse. Having a Banger with skill on Giroux and Voraceks wing would be awesome. We need a complimentary winger for those 2. And obviously you cant just plug the best player in there or Schenn would have worked.

Rantanen, but it's so very, very tough to just pick one. I'm thinking Rantanen < Crouse and Werenski < Provorov – thought I couldn't support either of these opinions objectively – and I give a slight nod to a forward with the first pick.

These are my exact thoughts

I went crouse. A big two way banger with skill.he is gonna be a royal pain to play against. Yah we need a skill upgrade obviously. Having a team leading the league in overtime loses is why we are not in the playoffs. Barzal or werenski would be my second choice.

I think I'm going to be satisfied with anyone they pick as long as its not off the board or a project.

EDIT: I will say I am very leery of drafting another center. The Schenn and Vinny failures at converting to wing has run out my patience of "well a forward is a forward." At some point we need to be ok with drafting wingers over Centers because they are natural fits.

I might be a loner here but i went with Connor for his sniping and dynamic offensive upside. Someone who has the ability to hopefully be a high goal scorer. I would have went with Provorov but I think we can grab a great Dman with our TB pick given the scouts usually do their work. With what we did with Sanheim in the teens I think we could do that again in the 20's.

Offer that draft pick along with....

Claude Giroux, and trade them for the first pick overall, and take McDavid!
I know the Giroux fans will holler at me, but what are you winning with him?
McDavid is the perfect player to build a team around.

The team with the number 1 pick probably wouldn't do this anyhow. Considering their rebuild is 5x worse than what we have to rebuild.

Didn't Buffalo beat the Flyers this season?
I know the Flyers may be better than Buffalo on paper, and even in the standings because the Flyers are the leading team for regulation ties, but those numbers are fake.
The Flyers current roster is horrid, and their style of play has very little focus.
I'd rather try to acquire McDavid, then promote the young defensemen who are currently in the minors, give the captain C to Simmonds, and continue to build for the future.

This is why I went provorov. After this dismal year we help now to get us back to at least the playoffs. I have never seen a team with 2 top 10 scorers and a top 2 goalie play so poorly and miss the playoffs. I want to sacrifice a little skill/potential with a guy that will be ready earlier as you discussed.

Werenski for me. Reason being he has a very high ceiling and could potentially play RD.

When your defense is set for years to come, it makes focusing on forwards much easier as well, and the Flyers seem to find gems at forward no matter where they pick.

Say next deadline, we trade Streit for a late 1st. Then we would have two 1st round picks in 16' to bolster the forward core.

Defenseman always are at a premium over forwards, if we have to un-load some of them to make room, we should be able to net a good return.

Keep in mind our depth scoring may not be as bad as it seems, won't be able to fully tell until we have defenseman capable of putting the puck on their sticks. I expect Couts, Schenn, & Laughton to show much more next year.
