Ha, we've got the Elite League over here, the Nottingham Panthers are my local team, even got a few over the hill NHL'ers (Chris Stewart, former Canuck Alexandre Bolduc, Dylan Olsen, we also had Brian McGrattan for his last season before he retired)Hockey's finally caught on in U.K. Only took 100 years.
Right on, i'm glad it''s getting big there. Wasn't it Nottingham that was doing great in that Championship? They combined the different leagues best teams, it was good hockey. Nottingham was an underdog but did well in the tourney. I have to admit, the only reason i was watching was for Växjö to see how Pettersson was doing but i love it when they underdogs make some noise in those tourney's.Ha, we've got the Elite League over here, the Nottingham Panthers are my local team, even got a few over the hill NHL'ers (Chris Stewart, former Canuck Alexandre Bolduc, Dylan Olsen, we also had Brian McGrattan for his last season before he retired)
yeah, last season they qualified for the Champions League which is basically all the top European teams other than the KHL teams, so SHL, Liiga, Swiss, German etc and they were the first UK team to ever make the knock-out phase of the tournament after winning their group that contained TPS & SC Bern, they got absolutely stuffed 6-1 by ZSC Lions in the last 16 but it was an achievement to get there nonetheless, had the first ever UK trained player drafted this year too, so hopefully it can continue to grow popularity.Right on, i'm glad it''s getting big there. It fixes them for us.I don't even quite understand Botchford's take. Better off on another team-- how? It's not like Gudbranson has been done in by a bad fit, lack of opportunity or the coach being biased against him. His problem isn't fit or environment, it's that he doesn't turn well, doesn't have good balance, doesn't have good awareness, doesn't handle or pass or shoot the puck well. Moving to a different NHL location isn't going to change those issues.
If I was a GM and Benning phoned me and said what'll you give me for Gudbranson if I eat half of his salary, my response: no, Jim what are YOU going to give ME in addition. Because even at $2M per year, in my opinion he's a liability rather than an asset. Maybe there's a sucker GM out there who feels differently; if there is, take advantage.

On Twitter I called him the Goal Genie. Players on terrible teams who have played 200 more minutes than him haven't surrendered as many goals.

I want to see a Matheson-Gudbranson pairing.
-----------------------------
Also, I thought Gudbranson was full value for what he was supposed to be in the ANA game. I don't want that to get lost in this. That type of player has perceived value around the league. He just does. When he chooses not to engage physically, and tries to play the game straight up, is when I think he is at his weakest value point.
They should keep showing him tape of that ANA game.
He actually made a sensible argument or too for a change, but just same old Botchford. On the one hand Gudbranson is a **** player, 100% waiver bait on a terrible contract. On the other hand we should expect to move him, and not for nothing insignificant if we "want to." There is a serious disconnect there.
I don't believe anyone wanted Gudbranson for much of anything LAST year, let alone this year or he would be gone by now. He has been terrible. He has zero or negative value. I believe we would be extremely lucky if we could find a deal for him without taking a loss.
Wasn't there a rumour that Benning turned down a 2nd and a 4th for Gudbrandson last year?
Don't know how legitimate Botchford's sources are/were though.
It came from Iain MacIntyre AKA Jim Benning's lapdog. So it's legit.
