I think Urban and Gregor need a reality check.
I lost a lot of respect for Gregor of all the pot shots he's made on the Oilers and constantly blaming Katz and the Oilers and giving Urban and the rush a free ride and not blaming them for anything.I think Urban and Gregor need a reality check.
This was all politics. Katz want his own Lacrosse team and the city/Katz wasn't going to accommodate Urban to help him keep the team here. Edmonton will have another team within 5 years under the Rexall Sports and Entertainment group. Kind of ********, but what do you expect from a weasel like Iverson and a businessman like Katz?
What does Allen Iverson have to do with the RUSH?

Edmonton is not a sports town. It's never been a sports town, it will never be a sports town.
It's an Oilers town.
Can someone type out what this says I can't expand it enough on my phone to read it.
Edmonton has supported football.
Edmonton has supported baseball.
Edmonton has supported hockey.
It's more than the Oilers.
To be fair though, it depends on how you define support.
Regina would probably fill CW every home game if CW was in Regina.
They only had 26k last game, 6k short of a sellout.

Bull. We're a town that likes some sports/teams over other sports/teams. Just like every other city.
We'd still have the Trappers if the Powers That Be hadn't sold us out. And if other cities in Western Canada could support their own teams we'd be watching pro baseball in Edmonton this summer.
Attendance at Eskimos games is still almost always the league highest despite drops in recent years. It just never seems that way because our stadium is so frickin' huge.
International organizations like bringing their events here because they know we'll get behind them.
And? The poster said they would fill Commonwealth Stadium, does it only hold 26k now?
Perhaps playing at Rexall place has something to do with it.Edmonton has consistently failed to support any sports team that isn't the Oilers or Eskimos, even hockey teams. Even the championship Oil Kings weren't where they should have been. We'll go to sporting EVENTS, but we don't support teams.
Even those figures you want to trump up with the Eskimos are inflated by the sheer number of Saskatchewan transplants who live here.
Edmonton has almost 5X the population and on the whole they are being outdrawn by Regina.
Well first off the Roughriders are Saskatchewans team not just Regina, secondly they have nothing else so of course they're a bigger attraction, and thirdly support isn't always consistent in the 90's the Riders weren't nearly as strong a brand while the team was struggling.
The entire province of Sask has a population less than greater Edmonton.
Also...what competes with the Eskimos from June to the beginning of October?

-World Cup soccer this year
- Summer festivals (Street performers, Taste of Edmonton, K-Days, Heritage Days, Fringe Festival, etc.)
-Other entertainment/dining/shopping [Enhancing downtown options, Whyte ave) options that Regina/Sask cannot compete with
- Proximity to mountains
Disposable income need not to be tied to sports. There is more to life than following second rate leagues like the CFL or Rush.
Esks perpetually lead the league in attendance. If you're going to point out that Regina has a higher capita attendance, then you can do that for all other 8 CFL teams.
