We have some good pieces, however slotting is off
For example, Kulak is a solid bottom pairing defender
But
When he’s in the top 4…….
Realistically if this team was to dream of contending we currently need a top pair Dman and a top 4 Dman. That’s without even getting started on the bottom six……

This is troubling.
Not that Draisaitl will ever be confused with Bob Gainey, but he usually at least makes an appearance in his own end.
Hopefully this is an example of simply a bad game and not that he's playing with an injury or worse yet, gassed already.
He looks to be lifting or shaking his foot in that clip. It's possible his ankle still bothers him at least periodically during games and playing 23 minutes a night isn't helping matters.

Part of the problem is McDavid is averaging 23 min a night again. Hard to blame the bottom 3 guys for not scoring when they get like 5 second shifts.
Our bottom guys scored more end of last season when they got more time and built some chemistry.
A big reason for the bottom guys not getting their minutes right now is that we're chasing the game more often than not. When we get the lead or are at least tied, the bottom sixers tend to get rolled consistently.

The ones at the tail end of their careers maybe. Not the ones looking for their first big deal from their original teams. Those guys don’t take discounts. They either sign for every dollar they can get or they get traded if the GM won’t pay it.
Morgan Reilly didn’t sign for nearly as much as Nurse did, and he’s arguably better. He didn’t take a discount but he signed for a reasonable number.

As a fan of both teams, who watches both on the regular, Reilly is certainly not better than Nurse lol both players, for what they bring, are overpaid. Nurse slightly more so, but if I was teleported to the GM of Toronto and asked which player(disregarding contracts)? It's Nurse.
