My biggest surprise is A Love Supreme is not your Love Supreme among Coltrane albums. You are correct about Exodus being Marley's best album.
A Love Supreme is a great album, but I hardly ever listen to it, kind of like Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain in that respect. My second pick would have probably been Giant Steps, at least from the designated time period.

I extended the list to include 3 albums from the last 2 decades.

1970 - Blood, Sweat & Tears – 3
1973 - Billy Joel – Piano Man
1973 - McCartney & Wings – Band On The Run
1974 - James Cotton Band – 100% Cotton
1976 - Alan Parsons Project – Tales Of Mystery And Imagination
1977 - Fleetwood Mac – Rumours
1977 - Styx – The Grand Illusion
1978 - Warren Zevon – Excitable Boy
1978 - Alan Parsons Project – Pyramids
1978 - Midnight Express (Soundtrack)
1979 - The Warriors (Soundtrack)
1979 - Powder Blues Band – Uncut
1980 - The Blues Brothers – The Blues Brothers (Soundtrack)
1980 - Bruce Cockburn – Humans
1980 - Alan Parsons Project – The Turn Of A Friendly Card
1980 - Burton Cummings – Woman Love
1982 - Kate Bush – The Dreaming
1983 - Maurice Jarre – The Year Of Living Dangerously (Soundtrack)
1984 - Bruce Cockburn – Stealing Fire
1984 - Flash And The Pan – Early Morning Wake Up Call
1986 - Bruce Cockburn – World Of Wonders
1986 - Depeche Mode – Black Celebration
1987 - Fleetwood Mac – Tango In The Night
1990 - Depeche Mode – Violator
1990 - INXS – X
2005 - Moby – Hotel
2005 - Madonna – Confessions On A Dance Floor
2015 - Of Monsters And Men – Beneath The Skin

I guess I could say that the shocker for me personally is that there isn't a Doors album on that list. The closest would be LA Woman, 1971, but the album as a whole just doesn't make the cut for me. Another surprise, sort of, is that there isn't a Chris de Burgh album, since I've got all his albums through the 70s and 80s. And finally, I'd like to throw out a special mention to Ms Mr – Secondhand Rapture, 2013.

Bogie! You absolute legend, you're back! This is absolutely definitive, my friend.

Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (1963)
The 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators (1966)
The Velvet Underground and Nico - S/T (1967)
Love - Forever Changes (1967)
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter (1970)
The Stooges - Fun House (1970)
Black Sabbath - Paranoid (1970)
Neil Young - After the Gold Rush (1970)
Alice Coltrane feat. Pharaoh Sanders - Journey in Satchidanada (1971)
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974)
Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn (1975)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (1975)
Joy Division - Closer (1980)
Kate Bush - The Dreaming (1982)
Philip Glass - Kooyanisqatsi (1983)
Pixies - Doolittle (1989)
NoMeansNo - Wrong (1989)
The Cure - Disintegration (1989)
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet (1990)
Nas - Illmatic (1994)
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (1994)
Genius/GZA - Liquid Swords (1995)
Eels - Beautiful Freak (1996)
Bjork - Homogenic (1997)
Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West (1997)
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin (1999)

Some tough cuts. I'd say maybe half of these would make a full top-25 that included the new millennium. Might be a project for down the road!

The-Beatles-Color.jpg

The updated number of times some artists appear are:

13 - The Beatles,

5 - Velvet Underground, The Clash,

4 - Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana,

3 - Bob Dylan,

2 - Bob Marley,

1 - Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lauryn Hill

I'm not surprised by the artists that appear 4+ times. I am surprised the artists that appear less didn't get more support.

For my personal taste I'll take The Clash and the artists that appear < 4 times over the rest.

Mr. Bungles appeared 3 times on my list alone! :-p

I put artists over albums only because, as you can see, some people have 3 or 4 albums from the same artist
I've never understood why so many people view this as a bad thing, personally. If you think the best albums are lopsided towards an artist that you find more talented overall, I prefer to see that reflected in a list, personally. I don't find that remotely less valid or more questionable (or even more useful/nicer to look at) than having an evenly spread out list.

your reply basically answers your top fave 20-25 bands not albums.

if we use the one band criteria that you are going by then the top album list would be real wonky.

for instance , you and i both are acdc fans. back in black and highway to hell are both in my top 25. so under the criteria i could only pick one of them. dude that would really suck!!!
