A Love Supreme is a great album, but I hardly ever listen to it, kind of like Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain in that respect. My second pick would have probably been Giant Steps, at least from the designated time period.
My biggest surprise is A Love Supreme is not your Love Supreme among Coltrane albums. You are correct about Exodus being Marley's best album.
Much of Hippasus list is from the 90s when I was most into music as a kid/teen. Yet I only recognize 5 artists. have to give a listen.John Coltrane - Interstellar Space 1974
Discharge - Realities of War 1980
Brian Eno / Harold Budd / Laraaji - Ambient 1-4 1982
Hellhammer - Satanic Rites 1983
Slayer - Show No Mercy 1983
Ministry - The Land of Rape and Honey 1988
Carcass - Reek of Putrefaction 1988
Repulsion - Horrified 1989
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park 1990
Rottrevore - The Epitome of Pantalgia 1990
Winter - Into Darkness 1990
Autopsy - Mental Funeral 1991
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey 1991
Beherit - Dawn of Satan's Millennium 1991
Profanatica - Weeping in Heaven 1991
Convulse - World Without God 1992
Incantation - Onward to Golgotha 1992
Burzum - Burzum 1992
Mayhem - Live in Leipzig 1993
Amorphis - Privilege of Evil 1993
Rippikoulu - Musta seremonia 1993
dISEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence into the Peripheral 1993
Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens 1994
Summoning - Dol Guldur 1997
Mournful Congregation - Tears from a Grieving Heart 1999
Faith No More - King For a Day 95
The updated number of times some artists appear are:
13 - The Beatles,
5 - Velvet Underground, The Clash,
4 - Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana,
3 - Bob Dylan,
2 - Bob Marley,
1 - Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lauryn Hill
I'm not surprised by the artists that appear 4+ times. I am surprised the artists that appear less didn't get more support.
For my personal taste I'll take The Clash and the artists that appear < 4 times over the rest.
Thanks!
I've never understood why so many people view this as a bad thing, personally. If you think the best albums are lopsided towards an artist that you find more talented overall, I prefer to see that reflected in a list, personally. I don't find that remotely less valid or more questionable (or even more useful/nicer to look at) than having an evenly spread out list.I put artists over albums only because, as you can see, some people have 3 or 4 albums from the same artist

your reply basically answers your top fave 20-25 bands not albums.I put artists over albums only because, as you can see, some people have 3 or 4 albums from the same artist

if we use the one band criteria that you are going by then the top album list would be real wonky.
for instance , you and i both are acdc fans. back in black and highway to hell are both in my top 25. so under the criteria i could only pick one of them. dude that would really suck!!!
