Clever move. 100,000 $ is pocket change for Qatar, but of the people that use the metro after the game there's probably a good few people working at State, the Pentagon, intel community etc. This is basically low effort lobbying of federal officials.

Qatar is in a really tight spot with the other Arabic countries like UAE and the Saudis pissed off at them for one reason or another. They really need to be on good terms with the US. It's probably a publicity stunt for them, 100k is nothing for a country like theirs.
