is it possible that Adam Oates could be available as an assitant if he gets passed over for the job in New Jersey?
We wouldn't get permission for him to make a lateral move.
(for reference)
If we are giving up our 3rd rounder in 2016, that means no offersheets this offseason...
Hopefully, if the Sabres end up giving one to the Pens, it'll be one acquired in a trade. I think they acquired three extra 3rds for the 2016 draft.

Adding to this, I think it's more bull crap that he was out of work for an entire year. It's not like he just got fired or left the Penguins. As well, why did they not ask for one from the Devils who are division rivals.I don't think anyone would've had a problem surrendering a 3rd for Babcock. It's the idea that they have to surrender a pick--any pick--for a guy who got fired that is bothering people, and rightly so.
Pretty sure the rule is written that is has to be OUR pick.
Yeah the fired coach part doesn't bother me as much as "coach whose team fired him last season and waited until all of the coaching vacancies were filled so he had no where to go". That and the fact they didn't seek compensation for Shero. It looks very inconsistent on their part.Adding to this, I think it's more bull crap that he was out of work for an entire year. i'm not 100% sure. in his mind he would be getting passed over for the job. Lou could respect that and let him shop around.

Perhaps more likely is that NJ hires a coach and gives him the ability to bring in his own coaching staff, of which Oates may not be a part.
