So, here are our guys:

Xxy0Z5y.jpg

I love revisiting old threads to see what people thought of a certain players potential (Gagner is better than Giroux ). So, let's all take a guess on how these 4 studs will pan out and revisit down the line to laugh at ourselves.

Hagg - Solid 3rd pairing defensemen that plays PK
Ghost - 2nd pairing defender on top PP unit
Morin - Outstanding 1st pairing defensemen that puts up decent offensive numbers
Sanheim - Good #2/#3 defensemen

I have high hopes.

None will be a franchise defender, but...

Morin will be a meaner Coburn. He won't be a #1, but he'll be a solid #2. Inconsistency will frustrate fans, but he'll be our best.

Sanheim will be a bit underwhelming given expectations, but he will round out as a steady guy that can anchor a second pair after a few years of ups and downs. Won't settle into this role until he's 24 or 25. Maybe something similar to Zach Bogosian's trajectory in terms of hype. Some fans will wish to trade him at some point, but Hextall never will since he marks his first big move as GM.

Hagg will be inconsistent and frustrate many fans. He'll get traded and won't have success with the Flyers.

Gostisbehere will be an impact player. He'll complement Morin well, and the two will lead the D corps effectively though neither will be franchise material alone.

I also think Mark Friedman will make things interesting at some point with a strong collegiate career.

I think hagg has the best chance of being the best out of this group. I think Morin has the highest ceiling, i think Ghost will be the best on offense, and i think sanheim is an unknown at this point.

Hagg - Willie Mitchell if all pans out. A more mobile but less physical version of Grossmann at just an average development. (Anywhere from a 3-6 defenseman)

Gostisbehere - Could be a poor man's Karlsson if he really hits his max. Marek Zidlicky is a more realistic projection. (Anywhere from a 3-6 defenseman, but could compliment a dominant two way number one if he hits his max)

Morin - The hardest defenseman of the three older ones to project. He could be a lesser version of Pronger if he hits his max, but that's highly unlikely. He could just as easily stagnate next year and turn into an incredibly mobile Hal Gill. (Anywhere from a number 2-6 defenseman)

Sanheim - We need to take a step back from immediately including him with the other three. He's got one half of a good to great season in the WHL to his resume. He's going to need a Morin-like jump in progression next year for us to really get a good read on what he might become. Button's McDonagh comparison has me really excited for his future though. He might have the best combination of tools of any of the recent draftees.

Sanheim will be the best of the bunch. He will be this teams franchise defenseman. Very well rounded #1 who puts up 40-45 points a season with maybe a 50 point season in there somewhere. Multiple all-star games and well respected around the league. Captain material.

Morin will be a solid 2nd pairing guy. very good tools and obvious talent, but will be a tad inconsistent and won't put up eye popping numbers, with most of his points coming on the power play. Will be prone to taking a lot of penalties and will draw the eyre of fans.

Gostisbehere will be a good 2nd pairing, pp specialist with the ability to dazzle offensively every now and then. Will be easily overpowered his whole career and will need a good defensive guy on his pair. He might play a 1st pairing role at some point, due to him having chemistry with our #1 (in this reality, Sanheim. sort of a pronger-carle situation).

Hagg will be a steady 3rd pairing guy who is very inconsistent and prone to long stretches of bad play. Will take him a longer time to be given a full time role. Not much offense, but can play a shutdown role when he's on his game.

Well, this is just a stab in the dark obviously, but...

Morin - 20-25 pt dfd who logs 20-25 mins a night and PK's.

Ghost - 45-50 pt ofd and PP qb.

Hagg - 30-35 pt 2 way dman. Plays in all situations.

Sanheim - Franchise defender. (Yes, Im being very optimistic here on this one, but if any of them become one, it will be him imo.)

Sanheim > Morin > Ghost > Hagg. I'm in the minority around here, but I really believe in Sanheim. IMO, he's the real deal. I have a tough time choosing between Ghost and Morin. They are very different players, but I value the defensive upside of Morin a little more than Ghosts offensive upside. If Hagg can put it all together, he should be a real well rounded physical defenseman that can play in all situations.

Makes me wonder how many times we will have to re-do these prediction threads until we even get a vague read on their real potential, until at least 2 out of our big 4 have played a double digit series of regular season game for the Flyers.... feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas Eve and its only July

I'm on record that Ghost will be the best. Becomes an offensive dynamo (not Karlsson good, but Keith in a peak year [60 point peak]), while holding his own defensively.

Morin doesn't become the two-way threat we hope, but does become a sturdy defender (like an Orpik) with a mean streak.

Hagg and Sanheim both come to similar levels of two-way play. Think Bieksa.

If they are truely patient with Morin, he will surprise people and not only with his defensive skill. Pretty great what the kid has accomplished already, progression wise, and he probably has the best mentor possible for his future role.

If Hagg pans out I'm going to go find last year's draft thread where I was hounding the Flyers (albeit, unbeknowst to them) to take Hagg - heck, I wanted him with our first pick.

Problem is I am usually wrong about players I want the Flyers to draft, so he'll probably bust. Heck, I hated the Giroux pick...

One will emerge as a franchise defdender (I'm gonna go with Morin). One will be an impact player (Ghost or Hagg). One will be a bottom pair/fringe NHLer/bust/traded (Hagg or Sanheim). They'll be given a chance over the next few seasons, but I think this is how it shakes out. Unrealistic to think all four will be regular NHLers with the Flyer (or at all). Just basing this on gut feeling.

I would say over 75 percent of the board wanted hagg. I remember i was praiying for atleast bowey or hagg to make it to 41 and when they both made it there the whole board was estatic over the hagg pick. I think that was the first time in a long time where i can remember the board being united in support of a pick.

Yup...count me in on that. Was screaming at the TV for them to pick Hagg...like I was to pick Maatta the year before.

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?p=68344701&highlight=tripod#post68344701 Post #270! lol

Glad to see Laughton progressing well of course

As for the OP:
Morin won't put up the #'s to be considered a #1 dman.
Ghost will be surprise and be like Keith.
Sanhiem will run the 2nd pairing with Freidman
Hagg will be our #5 D-man that is solid in all areas but great in none.

I'd like to think that these predictions are somewhere between realistic and slightly optimistic:

Hagg - #4/#5 dman that can play on pk and 2nd pp unit.
Ghost - #4 dman and pp qb on 1st unit.
Morin - #2 dman that can play on pk and 2nd pp unit.
Sanheim - #2/3 dman that can play on 1st pp unit.

I wanted the Flyers to trade down in the first to take Hagg. I thought we could gain another good pick to drop down. I didn't think he'd still be available in the second at all. The idea of getting both Morin AND Hagg is ridiculous.
