Still getting used to this whole actually being excited for Leafs season to start thing. I wanna puke when I think of our top line being JVR-Bozak-Kessel.

Watching some awesome Matthews highlights...this one is an amazing tribute...and I had to slap myself because we have Tavares too! OMG, I'm still grinning about Tavares and Matthews as our centres!

Having Marner on his wing and opposition having to split their checkers or get burned by line 1A or line A1. It's gonna be filthy boys.

i have to ask, since JT is known for really elevating production from just ok/a bit above ok, players

what if we
marleau-JT-brown
hyman-Matty-willi
johnsson/kappy--kadri-Marner

who the heck can contain all 3 lines? night in and night out.

Man how will we ever break through that "brick wall" mighty Carolina defense?

I DUNNO? maybe by just kicking their shit in?

Always acquire talent boys, don't buy into all this "gotta have 11515 elite D" bullshit.

I'm going to give myself a moment of silliness.....Yes! We got Tavares!

This is pretty darn fun honestly. It may not fully hit me until we see him on the ice. What has happened to this team is something I wouldn't have bet on. We got: smart management, Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Babcock, Andersen, Tavares, etc. We got the right people and have assembled a talented squad that I'd never have believed we'd have a few years ago. When we were swimming in mediocrity it all just seemed so directionless.

Now we've got two franchise centers. This is just nuts. Back when were drafting Kadri, just looked up at the top of the draft and thought "it would have been nice to get that guy too." The job of building around this core group is there, but wow we've got an exciting group. Tavares just makes this a so much scarier team. Can't wait till the games get going and he nets that first goal as a Leaf. All becomes real then.

i did something by accident today and it made my laugh me butt off , someone was talking about our lack of depth on D and it's a injury risk

i countered with our forward/C depth , i suggested that JT and Matthews go down ,then what?

Kadri/Nylander/Marleau/Lindholm as our C rotation after that disaster
 thats a damn solid C core:clap:

his defensive game is probably what intrigues me the most about him. It's pretty much a given he's going to be a good offensive player, but if he can be as good as he was in 2017 on the defensive side, it will be a pretty huge deal.

I heard his defense is not as good as JVR's...:sarcasm:

Hyman excited about possibility of playing with Tavares on Maple Leafs
"It's pretty cool if I get a chance to play with him," Hyman, 26, told NHL.com Thursday. "That would be awesome. He's an unbelievable player and so is [Marner]. I've been playing with Auston [Matthews] for the last two years and he's obviously a great player, too, so it's a great situation to be in for sure."

"It's only July now so a lot can change from now until training camp, so I'm just going to worry about practicing, training and being as ready as I can be."
"That's the situation that we're in as wingers; we have great centermen to play with," Hyman said. "We have a really good group. It doesn't really matter who you play with, you're going to be playing with a good player."
"He's got world-class skill and a skill set that's very unique," Hyman said. "He's extremely strong on the puck, he can make plays, scores goals, he's a two-way player, he really does it all. He's a complete player and we're lucky to be adding a guy like him."

we already have a #1C (Matthews). Burning $11m AAV over 7 years on another #1C seems overkill to me. Even if John Tavares is a great player, more experienced, would be more suitable for the C at this point, etc. I would have rather we invested cap space on defence. The combined cap hit to keep Nylander, Matthews, Marner and Tavares is going to be huge. And Marleau's cap hit is pretty big too. Matthews has room for improvement. Tavares is the more seasoned player. But this isn't like the old days pre-cap where you could have an Yzerman and Fedorov on the same team. Crosby and Malkin have more manageable cap hits from older contracts. Kadri being the #3C is quite amusing. Probably one of the highest paid (and best) 3Cs in the NHL now. He's a top 6 forward for sure. Great depth at centre, good wings, weak on defense though.

Are you crazy? When you can get Tavares without giving up assets you DO IT. As for defenders, you do understand we have even more assets to trade for a defender WITH Tavares signed if we would like to do it. Heck, if we really want to we can trade Tavares next season (we won't) for that god damn defenceman.
