Do any of the D look like they could end up being BPA at our pick? I see some people like Soderstrom, Broberg, York, and Byram.

Does anyone know them well enough to give the pros/cons of going with a D?

Right now my mindset is that we likely need cheap young forwards in the coming years to create a strong top 9. I am hesitant to draft a D if they are the toolbox but not cerebral as well.

Montreal drafted for need and it's going pretty well for them so far...

Draft the best forward available 10 times out of 10. We need another 70 ish point forward on the 2nd line.

I did not mean to imply we should be drafting a D for the sake of it. The first sentence of my post directly states do any of the D look like they could be BPA at our pick as we could end up in a wide range as of right now.

My personal preference if possible is: Kakko, Hughes, Turcotte, Dach. I could see these as the first 4 players off the baord so need to win the lottery or finish bottom 2.

I think these is a good year to be picking top 8, if you're looking for a forward. Hughes, Kakko, Podkolzin, Cozens, Dach, Turcotte, Krebs, Zagreb are all great picks.

Kakko seems like a pretty complete player, I wouldn't be worried if we lucked into him. I'd just not play him in the NHL in his D+1 like we did with JP. Podkolzin would be fantastic, but I'd be far more worried about our orgs handling with him. I'd love any of Cozens, Dach, Turcotte, or Krebs. I know less about Zagreb but he still seems like a good pick.

I wouldn't touch Kakko or Podkolzin with a ten foot pole. Nothing against them, they are both exceptional talents but I can just see them busting here. If we get 2nd overall I hope we trade down and select Turcotte or Dach

He'd still bust on this team lol. Anywhere else...superstar

The odds go up for sure for that.

The good news is that he's a beast with the puck and can dominate against men physically already at times, such a different type of prospect to Pulju.
Rants 2.0.

He's already filled in at 6'4 207. Not very skinny and raw like Pulju was. He can skate very very well and make plays in tight. Loves to use his big body down low and protect the puck with his amazing edges and hands. He really is Rantanen 2.0 but with better skating imo.

He'd be a stud next to Nuge at the 2rw

I think I'd be most excited for Kakko, Dach, Turcotte, and Krebs. I gotta stop following this thread lol, the Rantanen comparisons get me hyped up and I'll inevitably be sad when we don't luck into Kakko.

Would anything stop Oilers from playing Kakko as LW? Of course, I'm not sure how he's able to play that position, but when we consider his skillset and the 1LW hole Oilers have, I think that that should be able to work out. The thing about Kakko is that he's very good on the cycle, puck protection and puck retrieval and in my opinion should function very well with McDavid in all sorts of situations.

I honestly don't think even Oilers could screw Kakko up because he should be as NHL ready a prospect as any.

Not a fan at all. Even if we could develop Finns, which we can't.
Anttoni Honka is very risky indeed and has been quite disappointing this season. However, I don't think it's quite right to consider all the players of a nation one and the same. For instance, a defenseman such as Ville Heinola could be a great deal, although I guess Oilers wouldn't exactly be in position to draft him unless he falls down to the second round.

We need him for depth and to drive the play on the 2nd line. Having him off handed makes it easier to use his deadly shot for one timers.

These top 6 duos are ejaculation worthy:

X - Mcdavid - Drai
X - Nuge - Kakko

There’s no chance Kakko is 6’4

Kirby Dach on the Oilers with their lack of quality wingers could very well result in him busting. In the Top 5 he's the one that screams caution to me. Dylan Cozens can play RW/C and would look really good alongside McDavid if they don't get a Top 2 pick but are in the Top 5.

Puljujarvi/Nuge/Kakko. Get the Finns together.

I'm the opposite. Cozens screams caution to me. I see Dach with a much higher hockey IQ and someone who can create more chances on his own.

I'm by no means an expert, but this is just what I've seen in a few games that I've watched over the past couple of years. Dach is a lot like Draisaitl in that people may think he's lazy, but he can read the play so well that he doesn't need to be going a million miles an hour at all times, like Cozens at times. Sometimes Cozens reminds me of a guy like Radek Dvorak. He had a hell of a career, but didn't always look like he knew where he was going.

Both guys are certainly elite WHL players, but I just see more upside with Dach than Cozens.

Kakko has filthy mitts and is great in tight corners. Totally different player than Poolparty.
Ya, Kakko's game reminds me so much of Rick Nash.... I'm close to saying that an 18 year old Kakko today is as good as Rick Nash in his mid-20's. He's that good. Sweet mitts, protects the puck well, and also shows good vision. As good as Jack Hughes is, I'm all aboard he Kakko train at #1.

I've been trying to find interviews if he can speak english. Could be a great addition for Poolparty as well. Build confidence and communication on the ice.

If oilers win lottery I hope they draft Hughes and turn him into a winger, we would have our own marner/Kane

I agree with a lot of people in having little faith with another fin top 5 with this team

Hughes #1 no doubt. But Kakko is a hell of a consolation prize if you don't get #1.

And Hughes will most likely switch to wing. He's way too small to play center in the NHL.

What's are the odds that Chiarelli is at the draft table in June.

This organization has a tradition of parading the recently fired managers out on stage with the first round pick and the Ginger Giant.
