The 2016 draft was also a big zero and that hurts to have 3 drafts in the last 8 years as total duds.
The devastating part about 2016 was Tkachuk is probably a top10 NHLer and that draft should have been the point where the dummies were doubling up on top100 picks vs trading them away like candy for bad expensive defenceman reclamations and adding a future 40goal scorer to get it done.

Brzustewicz still has a lot to prove defending but it is excellent seeing him light up the OHL. I love his fakes, look offs and hard precision passing. Very much has a Hronek like projection with the puck. Lots of work to do yet

I didn't follow the prospect camp / pre-season closely. What is the deal with Jett Woo? Will he ever get a regular season call-up showcase, or is he so far down the depth chart that he is as good as done as a prospect? His box score stats in the AHL actually look decent enough for a stay at home defenceman (has yet to be a minus player in an AHL season, and broke 20 pts last season).

Any chance he has earned the next rotation as RHD call-up in favor of the Juulsen experiment?

He looked ok in training camp but in that 10-0 preseason opener vs Calgary he looked like he might struggle defensively playing in the WHL.

There's the following.

Didn't separate himself in camp and with no NHL experience was a prime candidate to be waived.

He's playing on the top-pairing in the AHL and has been pretty good, according to the reports. Allvin has said that he expects Woo to get into NHL games this year. Or at least had put himself in a position to get some games.

Feels like that will delay him getting to the AHL for a year. I guess next year will be SHL and then A the year after.
He might not need to spend a year in the SHL as
it’s probably better for his development to be a go-to big minute guy in a lesser league than a bottom pairing guy in the SHL for this year.
Either way, there will be a big adjustment when he comes over here to play in the AHL but it might be better if he comes over after a dominant season in Allveskan rather than a middling season in the SHL.

Pettersson looks like he'll be ready for the AHL next season. He's got a solid tool kit.

If he has trouble cracking an SHL lineup - he'll struggle in the AHL. The AHL is a pretty tough league for youngsters, especially young dmen coming over from Europe.

Bains development is huge given the lack of picks over the last few years. If he can become a cost-controlled, productive two way bottom 6 winger in the next two years its a big boon for a team that's going to be looking for cap relief any way it can get it.
My guess is that he'll be in the line-up on opening night next season, along with Aman and Raty, partly for the cost reasons you mention.

He was good enough to be playing regularly in the SHL last year and looks better this year but just appears to be caught in a bad situation where Orebro has 6 guys who are veteran defenders at that level, most of them with NA pro experience.

Allsvenkan is still a much higher level of play than the CHL.
