I think the fact that Sakic came out and said they will take a defenseman or forward depending on who Chicago picks basically confirms Byram is in the top 4.

I think Sakic was being deliberately vague there. He said a whole lot of nothing in the rest of the presser, there's no reason to think that he chose that specific question to answer informatively and then blow smoke on all the rest of them.

Just curious but when did he say this? I haven't seen anything but have also been largely out of the loop the last few days anyway.

I hope it's true as I want Byram at 4 more than anyone so him essentially saying Byram is in our Top 4 excites me for sure.

Pretty sure McMetal is saying the opposite of what you're thinking.

Sakic never mentioned the type of player. He only stated about meeting with the scouts and they'll be getting a good player. The only confirmation is the Top 2 and will wait for CHI choice.

Draft discussion starts at 5:40.

The question he was asked when he said "could go either way" is whether he'd be willing to take a defenseman, or if he feels a need to draft by need with a forward.

I can understand people thinking he's just saying whatever to give a nonanswer. But if you take his words seriously, then he's saying he is willing to go forward or defenseman

He’ll seems happy to take whatever is left. Prospects are so close Byram or Forwards will be fantastic additions.

Read that Pronman responded to a question about his new rankings and said that teams he has communicated with have Podz in the 5-12 range now. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but in a 5-12 range could be read as part of a third tier of prospects, behind 1-2 tier (Hughes and Kakko) and 3-4 tier (Byram and Turcotte?).

Podkolzin would be an incredible addition, but can’t see him falling beyond Philly @ 11 or MTL @ 15.

Maybe prepare to trade up if he drops beyond 11?

He could be willing to pick a blueliner in theory, but not think that Byram is worth taking top 5; without that contradicting what he said :dunno:
