Tough call between Giggy and Kirk McLean, but the 2nd lineup mirrors mine for the other 5 slots.

:stars (including Minnesota North Stars)

Sergei Makarov (4) - Eric Lindros (49) - Jaromir Jagr (34)

Teppo Numminen (62) - Reed Larson (8)

Tim Thomas (8)

Total: 165

Really wanted to work Larry Murphy in but at 121, he was too much. Couldn't keep Lindros and Jagr if I did that.

Makarov, Larson, and Thomas are all very, very good value.

The forwards and goaltending is fantastic. Defense is meh, especially without Murphy. I could swap Jagr for Zuccarello, but that's a bigger drop off than Murphy to Numminen/Larson IMO.

Habs:

Alex Semin (15) - Alex Tanguay (50) - Thomas Vanek (18) = (83)
Tomas Kaberle (53) - Sergei Gonchar (45) = (98)
Tony Esposito (13) = (13)

Total = 194$

That's mine too, unless we try to guesstimate what Newsy Lalonde and Sprague Cleghorn would be in today's game.

Washington:
Esa Tikkanen $20/Jason Arnott $11/Rick Tocchet $13
Jeff Friesen $33/Trevor Linden $28/Sergei Berezin $9

Jeff Brown $9/Kevin Shattenkirk $19
Igor Ulanov $3/Brad Shaw $4

Jaroslav Halak $9/Cristobal Huet $13

Spare forwards-Keith Acton $6/Benoit Hogue $9
Spare D-Curtis Leschyshyn $2/Shawn Chambers $2
Spare goalie- Corey Hirsch $1

Total: $191. If I gotta pay a player that went on to coach, Joel Quenneville @ $9 makes it an even $200. Yeah, bending the rules a bit. Could've just said Tikkanen 20, Fedorov 70, Tocchet 13, Halak 9=$112 and came up with 2 defenseman at $88 or less but I got a little sidetracked.

Bobby Orr (26), Paul Coffey (10)

Two of the best ever PMDs.

Goalie:
Dominik Hasek (25)

The Dominator.

Doing the Whalers, but just the Whalers, gets interesting. You still can't really do Pronger, but you get serious all-time greats

Gordie Howe $80
Tiger Williams $26
Bobby Hull $9
Paul Coffey $20
Steve Chiasson $18
JS Gigure $8

Got $39 left too

Paul Kariya ($51) Teemu Selanne ($78) Theoren Fleury ($15)
Johnny Boychuk ($4) Kevin Shattenkirk ($46)
Tommy Salo ($5)

$199

Since the rules say forward positions don't matter, this lineup doesn't have a natural center, but Daniel Briere ($57) could be included instead of Selanne if a center was required.

Player ($) [pts]

F - J. Jokinen ($14) [563pts] / V. Damphousse ($80) [1205pts] / Geoff Courtnall ($12) [799pts]
D - C. Pronger ($80) [698pts] / R. Larson ($10) [685pts]
G - M. Gerber ($3) [0.911sv% & 2.63GAA]

Total = 3,950 points at $199.
Not sure how to make a better Oilers roster given the constraints. Tough team.

HM: G - Jim Corsi ($26).
He sucks but we get extra points cause he understands advanced stats right? Big deal around these parts....

Gerber career .911, Bryzgalov had career .912 but was 8x more expensive for this exercise.

Dropping Damphousse puts Samsonov and Derek Roy on the roster. Vinnie is 200 more points than the other two combined and gives you house money for jokinen which is another 500. He's expensive, but we're the only team that can use him. Juice has the same cost as Frycer who put up 330 in 415 nhl games, better ppg but Juice scored more total and both players are under the cap. Took the higher career points for filler. Oilers have a big black hole of historical offense that played between 40 and 70 games for us...

Actually disappointing the blues can only muster that many points when you start with a 2800+ point handicap over the rest of the field.
