Took a pill in Sbisa

As a lifelong die-hard Oilers fan I find it shocking that this is the first time I've ever seen Reed Larson's name.
$200 game is for wimps, how about a $500 game for an entire position-minded roster?

Player | Games | Position | Notes |
Andy Bathgate | 70 | RW | Hall of Famer; finished in top five in scoring nine years in a row, usually as by far the best forward on his team |
Don Luce | 39 | C | Great defensive forward, especially on the penalty kill |
Dickie Moore | 38 | LW | Hall of Famer; won two consecutive Art Ross trophies; major contributor to Habs dynasty |
Mike Peca | 35 | C | Two-time Selke trophy winner |
Eric Lindros | 33 | C | Hall of Famer; perhaps the greatest combination of skill, size and toughness in NHL history after Gordie Howe |
Frank Nighbor | 23 | C | Hall of Famer; won the first ever Hart trophy; best defensive forward of his generation; was likely the 3rd best player in hockey history up to WWII |
Mariusz Czerkawski | 19 | RW | Skilled forward who had a couple of really impressive seasons on some very poor NYI teams |
Ron Francis | 12 | C | Hall of Famer; his offense is probably a bit overrated (he was a top ten scorer just once playing without Lemieux and/or Jagr), but he was very consistent, and a great two-way player |
Olli Jokinen | 6 | C | Four 30 goal seasons in a low scoring era; veteran of over 1,200 games |
Syd Howe | 3 | C/LW | Hall of Famer; how many people know that he was, at one point, the highest scoring forward in NHL history? |
Ken Linseman | 2 | C | Tough, aggressive forward who scored over 800 points |
JP Parise | 1 | LW | Good all-around forward with a long career |
Pierre Pilote | 69 | D | Hall of Famer; probably around the 15th best defenseman all-time; won three Norris trophies and was runner-up three more times |
Brian Leetch | 15 | D | Hall of Famer; won two Norris trophies and a Conn Smythe |
Sprague Cleghorn | 13 | D | Hall of Famer; a psychopath by today's standards, but well-rounded if you can get past lack of discipline; two-time runner-up for the Hart trophy |
Calle Johansson | 8 | D | A responsible, minute-munching defenseman; a veteran of over 1,100 games |
Glen Wesley | 7 | D | A quiet, minute-munching veteran; a steadying presence on the blueline |
Phil Housley | 1 | D | Hall of Famer; yes he's awful defensively, but at the cost of 1 game, I'll find a way to fit him and his 1,232 points onto the roster |
Bernie Parent | 65 | G | Hall of Famer; one of only three players in history to win back-to-back Conn Smythe trophies |
Gerry Cheevers | 2 | G | Hall of Famer; probably the weakest goalie in the HOF but still an important contributor to Orr's Bruins |
Player | Games | Position | Notes |
Guy Lafleur | 67 | RW | Hall of Famer; I know it's a lot to allocate 67 games for one player but Lafleur was that good; three scoring titles, two Hart trophies, a Conn Smythe, and by far the best forward on arguably the NHL's greatest dynasty |
Pavel Bure | 51 | RW | Hall of Famer; an outstanding goal-scorer |
Dick Duff | 43 | LW | Hall of Famer; probably doesn't deserve that accolade, but was a good depth contributor to many Stanley Cup winners |
Vaclav Nedomansky | 34 | RW | Hall of Famer; skilled goal-scoring forward |
Olli Jokinen | 26 | C | See comments for Leafs, solid forward |
Don Luce | 21 | C | See comments for Leafs, great penalty killer |
Doug Bentley | 20 | LW | Hall of Famer; three-time first-team all-star |
Eric Staal | 20 | C | Is quietely approaching 1,000 points despite playing in a low-scoring era; pretty consistent |
Howie Morenz | 18 | C | Hall of Famer; the greatest forward up to WWII; three Hart trophies, two scoring titles, and three Stanley Cups |
Jari Kurri | 14 | RW | Hall of Famer; excellent two-way player; proved he wasn't a product of Gretzky in 1989; major contributor to Oilers dynasty |
Glen Anderson | 12 | RW | Hall of Famer; also a major contributor to Oilers dynasty |
Rob Zamuner | 9 | LW | Good utility forward |
Babe Siebert* | 56 | D | Hall of Famer; won a Hart trophy and spent three years as a first-team all-star |
Sandis Ozolinsh | 40 | D | Inconsisten, but could be a game-breaker offensively when at his best |
Bryan McCabe | 19 | D | Inconsistent, but good PP production and a good hip check; needs someone to cover for his defensive lapeses |
Derek Morris | 18 | D | Never produced the offense expected, but played over 1,100 games |
Roman Hamrlik | 12 | D | Steady, versatile veteran of nearly 1,400 games; had a great shot; can play a ton of minutes |
Marty McSorley | 9 | D | Everyone remembers him for one truly unfortuante incident, but was a steady bottom-pairing defenseman for nearly 1,000 games before that |
Terry Sawchuk | 8 | G | Hall of Famer; the reality is his career after his first stint in Detroit was nothing special, but he had one of the best five year peaks of any goalie in history |
Harry Lumley | 1 | G | Hall of Famer; veteran of over 800 games; twice a first-team all-star; won a Stanley Cup as a starter |
Player | Games | Position | Notes |
Dale Hawerchuk | 66 | C | Hall of Famer; for the first ten years of his career, was second in scoring only to Gretzky; was usually by far the best forward on his team |
Esa Tikkanen | 54 | LW | The ultimate pest; a pain to play against, but with some scoring talent (three 70+ point seasons); four-time Selke finalist; a great playoff performer |
Glen Anderson | 51 | RW | Hall of Famer; discussed previously |
Dickie Moore | 27 | LW | Hall of Famer; discussed previously |
Peter Stastny | 23 | C | Hall of Famer; the second-highest scoring player of the eighties after Gretzky |
Vaclav Nedomansky | 22 | RW | Hall of Famer; discussed previously |
Scott Gomez | 21 | C | A very good playmaker who was a solid contributor to two Stanley Cup champions |
Petr Nedved | 19 | C | Scored over 700 points in close to 1,000 games |
Wayne Gretzky | 18 | C | Hall of Famer; the greatest player of all time |
Ray Ferraro | 15 | C | A long career; scored nearly 900 points over more than 1,200 games |
Olli Jokinen | 8 | C | Why does he keep showing up on these teams? |
Martin Havlat | 2 | RW | For an investment of $2, I'll take someone who scored nearly 600 points in a low-scoring era |
Doug Harvey | 70 | D | Hall of Famer; won seven Norris trophies and was probably the single most important player on the only dynasty in NHL history to win five consecutive Stanley Cups |
Phil Housley | 26 | D | Hall of Famer; discussed previously |
Wade Redden | 23 | D | People quickly forgot how good he was; very well-rounded with no single overwhelming strength and no obvious weakness |
Charlie Huddy | 12 | D | Quiet, consistent blueliner who was a solid contributor to the Oilers dynasty |
Terry Harper | 11 | D | Steady minute-munching blueliner |
Alexei Kasatanov | 8 | D | One of the greatest Soviet players; a balanced and dependable blueliner |
Martin Brodeur | 7 | G | Hall of Famer; one of the top seven (or so) goalies of all-time |
Tom Barasso | 6 | G | Probably should be in the Hall of Fame; prickly personality but had a high peak and was generally good in the playoffs |

I'll take my chances when looking at his overall career...Lots of people taking Paul Coffey because of his brief stints with their team but you are getting credit for their entire career so do you really want Paul Coffey? Probably not --he was brutal for a long time at the end and only stuck around the league because of his name.
Is it safe to say that the worse your team is the better your front office?

My limited knowledge of Hockey History probably let me down here so I'm sure someone could improve the team. If a centre was needed then Eddie Olczyk ($68) seems like the obvious option though you'd have to replace Odelein with someone cheaper like Ron Hainsey ($16).
