Podkolzin is another project and possible bust like Yakupov and JP. I pass. Rather pick Broberg.
This. I'm not a fan of Podkolzin myself, but Broberg has all the same concerns except 10x more extreme.Broberg because Podkolzin is a project? Ok....to each their own I guess.
Pod has had an absolutely terrible U18. He appears to be falling quick.I voted Zegras but I dont think Pod, Caufield, Boldy and Newhook are that far behind him. This is such a deep draft.
Zebras....
No discussion to be had. It's the obvious pick. He's a step above everyone else on left on the board.
We need someone to help drive the second line, anyone can succeed with McDavid and Draisaitl. I don't think he's enough of a driver for this team.Caufield is going to be ridiculous. The kid just scores goals and gets in to perfect spots. We have no natural goal scorers in our system outside of Maxi. Common Oilers make the right choice. Caufield with McDavid or Drai is just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

We have 2 significant goal scorers when they play together. Would caufield replicate Drai's 50 with McDavid? Can Drai score 50 without? Put a line driver with RNH and you'll see more balanced results. We need a goal scorer. Drai can drive the second line as long as he has someone to pass it to. Our biggest issue was we had 3 forwards who could complete a play and McDavid always got one of them on his line. So it was quite easy for other teams to neutralize the second line since it only ever had 1 competent forward on it.

The solution to depth problems isn't further loading up the top line.
100% agreed. The solution to depth problems is drafting the BPA, who, in this case, (according to the majority here), is Zegras.
I'm not even so sure Drai will replicate 50 again. It is also really hard to guess who will or will not be a line driver in the NHL. You have 1 guy in this draft class who I think will be, in Hughes, but everyone else is pretty up in the air. I would never pick anyone as small as Caufield this early in the draft as there are bigger guys with ceilings just as high still available. We already have one mouse in Yamamoto. Also, just look at the playoffs where the going gets heavy. In teams that are moving on, I see skill mixed with big fast men. This happens every year. When the playoffs roll around, I’d rather have Roope Hintz than Johnny Gaudreau.Caufield is going to be ridiculous. The kid just scores goals and gets in to perfect spots. Basically it's a classic playmaking center vs. goal scoring winger case.
Zegras' puck-carrying and playmaking will likely translate to driving a line more than a guy like Caufield who prefers not to carry the puck, sneak away from coverage and score goals.
We have 1 generational playmaking C, 1 franchise playmaking C, and 1 really good playmaking C. We also have some good playmaking wingers in the ranks but we have no goalscorers. When Chiasson comes in as a PTO and is the 4th best scorer on the team there is a big problem.
I think McDavid and Leon are destined to play as a duo now and, in two years when Zegras is cracking the roster, Nuge could be a UFA. I'd also say we're pretty shallow at center in the pipeline. Not sure McLeod or Marody project as #2Cs.
You really have to go BPA and I'd say that's Zegras.
Caufield is not a guy who digs, who drives the net, who pushes the play. He slides into the perfect spot to get a great shot off. We don't have the guys to get him the puck outside of the first line.I'm not even so sure Drai will replicate 50 again. And that’s where Podkolzin excels. The digging, out working opponents and he also is really good at sliding to the open spot for the one-timer and his is also a lethal shot. He would be the perfect QB for the second unit PP, he normally plays the half wall where Drai generally sets up. He’s a dynamic player and a shooter. Something this team lacks outside of Draisaitl.Caufield is not a guy who digs, who drives the net, who pushes the play. He slides into the perfect spot to get a great shot off. Is there any reason to think Zegras can be as good as Debrincat? Plus he can play C.Really? I'm not Johnny's biggest fan but this is just stupid. NHL is relying more on skill and speed rather than size. Yamo plays a different game that will need a good 3-4 years of adjusting IMO. He plays a Gallagher type game and needs to start filling in to his adult frame before I see him being an effective NHLer. Caufield is a 1 shot scorer who can find openings better than most. He is very similar to Debrincat and look how big of a mistake that looks to be drafting Benson over him.
Build the 2nd line around Zegras and worry about the goal scorers laterAnd if we take Zegras who does he pass the puck to? Chiasson?
