What happent to Brent Seabrook contract after he did retire? He still on the payroll?
He’s done playing professionally, but isn’t “officially” retired yet. That allows him to continue to collect on his current contract until it is up after the 2024 season. Same as what we did with Mattias Ohlund years ago. While he is on LTIR, it does not count against the cap. A move like this is possible thanks to Vinik, as not every team owner is able to pay for an extra contract like this.

It's a shame we had to trade so many 1sts to get rid of Tyler Johnson...

It's still surprising to me that a Tampa would trade cash to a Chicago (in the form of taking Seabrook's contract) rather than having to give additional hockey resources. Just looking at the market size, history, etc you'd always expect the $ to flow the other direction.

It's far, far from dumb luck that our window has been open so wide for so long. Gotta love Vinik.
