Tampa isn't great with first rounders anyways. Not that it's not valuable to take the shot. They have had a little better success in the later rounds.

Yeah. We're more about quantity of picks than quality.

Our window is open for as long as Victor Hedman is an elite #1, most likely. We have a lot of fire power and we've shown an ability to develop great secondary scoring while also plucking the odd gem out of later rounds.

Given what Shattenkirk/Rutta did with Hedman he wouldn't need to be as long as he's pushing the play offensively. Will be interesting to see how Savard does with that
Shattenkirk was... Well, he was good overall, I think. And definitely worth his salary. But God he was bad some nights.

Honestly I think we have enough puck movers. I'll take the better defense.

I think:

Tampa Bay Lightning is a bad job.
Detroit Red Wings - Not worth mentioning.
Columbus Blue Jackets is a good job.

TBL is a loss of the future.

Happened - David Savard:
2021 1st-Round Pick, 2022 3rd-Round Pick (@ 50% Ret)
2021 4th-Round Pick (@ 50% Ret)

It could have been - Patrik Nemeth:
2022 4th-Round Pick (@ 50% Ret)
2021 5th-Round Pick (@ 50% Ret)???

There are many other defenders.
The problems with the salary cap remained.

Possible summer exchanges with Seattle, Detroit have become complicated ...

For example:
Seattle - Killorn + Johnson + McDonagh + 2021 1st + ???
Detroit - Killorn + Johnson (Killorn + Palat) + 2021 1st + ???
Seattle - McDonagh + ???

There are many other options.
The 2021 1st-Round Pick could be part of the compensation.
Strange actions of Tampa.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Tampa still gets a 1st round exit.

That's a very low pick the Jackets got back. Practically a 2nd rounder. 32nd overall or something. And in a weak draft year.

They should have asked for the Wings first rounder.

Man it has to be nice to have ownership that is willing to spend. TB and Toronto looking for loopholes to spend more money and stay within the cap, Ottawa looking for ways to spend less money and stay within the cap.

You won't find a single Tampa fan who cares about a freaking 1st round pick. Sure, Tampa maybe loses this value-wise but it's 100% worth it.

Same, I thought at 50% it was maxed out, did that change recently or has it always been this way?
50s the max for one team to retain , but its happened before/ has always been this way since retaining became a thing

People acting like it’s a forgone conclusion Columbus will actually make the pick with Tampa’s first.

I give it a 50/50 with the other 50 moving it in a package for a “now” roster upgrade this offseason.

“Today” it’s all about stock piling the best draft capital available.

I don't think Washington, Pittsburgh and Carolina have what it takes.
Meh, on paper the Caps didn’t have what it took in 2018, nor the Blues in 2019. 2020 Tampa appeared inferior to the first-round-exit 2019 team. Once you get past the first round, teams tend to be separated by player buy-in, positional depth and luck. Tampa absolutely could win it all, but I wouldn’t rule any playoff-bound team out just yet.

Perhaps I will find a few Tampa fans. :)
TBL has a balanced lineup.

Happened - David Savard is a good Tampa player.
It could have been - Patrick Nemeth is a good Tampa player.

You wrote - "... but it's worth it." Not sure about 100%.
I wrote the reasons in comment # 531.
Let's watch the show.
Good luck.
