Not sure I'd do this as a philly fan. It's pretty much established that:

Simmonds = late 1st + prospect
Gudas =2nd + 3rd
Don't know the Simmonds is worth a 1st AND a prospect... not for only 24-25 games. Now, if he had another year left on his deal yeah... but I think that's a serious overpayment for him as a rental. Gudas still having a year on his deal adds appeal for me.

Simmonds/Ferland is exactly what Tampa needs.

Why Philly or the Canes would want JT Miller as the return, no idea, and would be shocked if this was the case. A three-team deal shipping Miller somewhere else for minimal assets to the Flyers or Canes in addition to a TB prospect/Pick I can see, and it would be a sensational move by TB.

I think I saw this and reall liked it:
- Gudas (50% retained) for a 2nd

would make way more sense than a 2nd+3nd

Toronto seems mostly on board with a 2nd and a 3rd for Gudas with no retention. I think youe having trouble with the value because you only see him as a 5 or 6 at best, as you mentioned earlier in the thread. Hes a capable #4 by any measurement. Hes not an elite #4, but definitely a capable #4. When you consider him at 50% - 1.67 Mil - for another year of a top 4 RHD - that's easily worth a 2nd +.

Canes would much rather have JT Miller than some prospect/pick for Ferland. If Tampa wanted to do that swap, I think management and I'm sure the fans would on board.

The article says he “thinks” Tampa has inquired. I don’t see them going after another forward, the forward group is set for Tampa. They do need to look at a potential Top 4D upgrade. They have been able to outscore their D issues, but with things getting tighter as the playoffs get closer, they need to address them sooner rather than later. It’s also an issue which goes into next season since they have 3 D contracts falling off as well. I don’t see any of those D returning unless one of them whom they consider keeping, re-signs really cheap.

I'll be honest, I personally think Tampa's defense is vastly over rated. On paper they are great, but tuning in I see a common weakness. Teams with fast skilled forwards eat them to death. They run around their zone and look lost while Vasi does a ton of heavy lifting.

Saw more of that last night except Vasi wasn't able to bail them out. I think that they can beat most teams every single night but over a 7 game series, IF they draw the wrong opponent, I think they will be beat.

IMO of course.

I have never felt my heart being torn between two different loves... I don't like this. I don't know what to do...

You ask for a counter offer from the Canes to counter Gritty. It's probably going to have to involve brisket.

a little bit like what Plekanec gave us: 2nd + 3nd.
he wasn't perceive well by other team, but toronto used him a lot as a #3c so they paid much more.
Toronto can definitely pay 2nd + 3nd for Gudas if they think he can fill the Zaitsev second pairing ( which he can)

I hope Stralman loves having his family in Tampa and considers resigning for about where he is now...4.5 Million AAV....I know its a bit of a discount for what he can get on the market but I think he wants to maintain the stability of remaining in Tampa. Hoping anyway.

The other two, Girardi and Coburn, good riddance to bad rubbish I say. Yeah, Coburn played great to start the year but has been leveling off as of late. Unfortunately, he played so poorly the previous couple of years that I don't know if his good start can make up for it.

That will never happen.

To say it again, most Flyers fans view Gudas's value at a 2nd +3rd. But teams would have to BEAT THAT in order to convince the Flyers to give up their top 4 RH Dman signed to a great deal.

Why? Describe how you think Miller will perform on the Canes for the course of his current contract. Unless he can be paired with a star center, I fail to see resounding interest based on his contract and how he has played away from Stamkos and Kucherov.

Girardi has fallen off a cliff..... well that’s a few cliffs now, but yeah he does not look good. Coburn was good, and yeah leveled off. Stralman May have to take less just to stay, and he is the one I was getting at about whom they would keep.. but you caught on to that.

Getting back to the forwards, I just don’t see an issue with the forwards, everyone has played well, in their roles, no one has played bad. D is a different story. There are concerns, and come playoff time, those concerns are going to be escalated when playing the best of the best. I think Tampa is sitting 12th in the league in Goals against? That’s not too bad, but think they need to at least crack the top 10, even top 5.

I'm assuming youre a rangers fan, give your username, so you should be aware that hes a capable 50 point forward on a team that isnt stacked as well.

Agree completely about the forwards. I don't feel we need to make any changes there but, if we're making a trade for a decent D man to replace Girardi (like Gudas) and we are eventually going to move Miller to free up some cap space anyway, Simmonds would be a good pickup to finish out this season without a lot of drop off from Miller's absence...

I'm shocked by some of the proposals with Miller, and yes as someone that watched him play for 5 years and has watched him on TB, I think the stat watching is fueling this inflated value. I'm just quite certain if he's actually traded the acquiring team will see the same thing with his time in NY and TB. Nothing against JT but he floats and doesn't bring the effort on a consistent basis to warrant his contract, especially in the playoffs. FYI his 2016 season was largely a product of Grabner and Hayes and it quickly disappeared in the playoffs.

Im not chomping at the bit to get him, but our management wants to make an impact now, so in their eyes, he probably holds more value than a 2nd round pick. His contract is kinda of inconsequential to us as well have about 15 mil in space available AFTER we sign our RFAs. He also becomes bait to dangle to Seattle in the expansion draft to try and keep our Defense core in tact.

Unless its being used in a package to get an impact player, im not really interested in acquiring more picks, per se.
