The major thing is that even when we improve, relative to where other teams are at, it may not be enough. Even on a game-by-game basis, using the NJ game as an example, we may have shown far more improvement from game 1 to game 11. But because we started so inconsistently, relative to an opposing team, we never wind up being on the positive end of a result. I think we will always be trying to play catch-up.

Definitely more positive signs, starting with the second period onward....

Is it possible Tocchet is such an ass that the player's are revolting and the poor play is deliberate?

No. Or at least that's probably a reach based on what we know about him. Sometimes teams, especially veterans, balk at a new coach (see Boucher in Tampa) but the Coyotes have no reason to do so.

Really, the underlying stats say they are performing under expectations by a good chunk. It's part bad luck, part dumb mistakes, part zero confidence, part bad goaltending.

Against the Rangers, they quit for the first time. Then it was back to work against the Devils. They're fighting it and just need that first win. I'm not going to get too down on Tocchet until we see steady goalie starts combined with losses. At that point, it's time to panic.

There's really no excuse for Duclair on the 4th line. He's not a useful player there, so you're wasting him + a player that's a better fit there. For a coach that talked a lot about giving guys confidence, he sure went straight to f***ing with Duclair's, despite him playing better this year than last. If Duclair is staying, you may as well use him correctly and hope for the best. The lines need more balance anyways.

His zone starts are really strange. It emphasizes the roster being a one line group. I'm not down with that. If you don't learn anything from watching Kconn - Schenn every night, I also have some questions...

It's possible RT is losing the room already but I doubt it. RT is an x-NHL player with lots of experience as a coach and player. I would think the players respect him.

Duclair isn't on the 4th line tonight:)

I don't think that Tocchet has lost the team in 10 games. I just think that he is a lousy coach with a lousy system, if one can call it a system.

Chayka already tried to trade Duclair once, in that leaked Dougie Hamilton deal that pissed off Brian Burke.

I think it's only a matter of time before Duke is out.

We really need some RWers who actually shoot right handed.

Alright, fine, I'm gonna look like an idiot but I have to ask: why is that?

It doesn't matter as much 5v5 as it does on the PP and it doesn't have to be the RW necessarily with the RHS but it's important to have a good mix on the PP for quick forehand releases (one-timers and one-touches specifically).

This is a good read:

Edmonton may already be looking to move on from Ryan Strome. I'm not a big fan but if Duclair is going to sit perpetually in the doghouse we may as well get a guy who can be a RHS PP specialist from the RW, even if he's going to be crap 5v5. Duclair for Strome could make sense. I'd hate it. But coaches apparently all had Duclair for some unknown reason. Not much point in keeping him.

I'd be more interested in what we'd have to add to Duke to get Same Reinhart. Probably a lot, but I'd like to know how much.

Hard pass on Ryan Strome for me, I hate the idea of Dylan having his brother on the team. As much as I love Keller I still think the future of the franchise is riding on Dylan succeeding and I don't want them doing anything that might jeopardize that.

Got it. Variety makes sense. I was just wondering why a RHS on RW was something we were looking for. I shoot right handed and much prefer LW since it puts me in a more natural shooting position when cutting inside. Forces me to make passes on my back hand often when entering the zone, but the shooting advantage makes it worth it.

I am happy for Tocc and the team that they have their first win. That should take some pressure off of guys squeezing the stick a little. It was also nice to see solid goal tending.

I find it interesting that many fans last year felt like DeAngelo/Duclair/Strome were mishandled and not given a chance to succeed. This year under new coaching, Duclair is a 4th liner then scratched, while Strome and DeAngelo are both in the AHL. Player evaluations are the same regardless of the coach.

I agree. Smith and Tippett can stay right where they are. Having said that, some heads need to roll or the nightmare will continue.
I guess you don't like goalies with a 936 save percentage. Smith is in heaven right now not having to stop point blank shot after shot.

You really think he'd have those stats with Shitshow Schenn, Demers, Gogo and KConn in front of him?

Yes, and partly because Smith is an excellent puck mover. That would help out our D in a big way.

I always wondered if I was watching different as I never saw what some fans here saw in those players?? Strome wasn't ready, Duclair is an average at best NHL'er and DeAngelo was a fringe NHL'er IMO.
