well headshots are the hot button issue right now regardless that another type might be as likely to end a career. public interest will always sway discipline.

I still think this suspension is a joke but Russo said something interesting on Souhan's podcast today. He said the NHL goes and looks at the entire game as a whole to see if anything beforehand led to the incident. He thinks the league saw Downie spear Suter in the groin and figured "Hey you were trying to get payback, you knew what you were doing" sort of thing. So inconsistent when it comes to discipline

So Downie spears Suter, doesn't even get a call or a fine from the league, and yet expects players to ignore it? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

What you said. Hotbutton issues mean more time than most infractions. Anyway, we can't treat this like the "Butcher" suspension of a few years ago. That was a joke, but this isn't the same, Suter truly, and clearly elbowed Downy in the head.
